You could try installing them manually after downloading from the MS
Download Center. I had to download KB 979906 manually after not even being
offered it by Auto Updates.

I just run into this problem and I check with microsoft:
the problem turned out to be a currupted/damaged .net framework
component. it required to uninstall the whole .net framework and then
install it again.

this is what I was asked to do and what I did:

to uninstall the whole .net framework I was asked to use this tool
http://cid-27e6a35d1a492af7.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Blog_Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip
(*** make sure you select all versions****)

then I just dowloaded the .net framework with sp1 again from here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/E/20E90413-712F-438C-988E-FDAA79A8AC3D/dotnetfx35.exe

after that I uninstalled manually the 3 updates I was having problems
with (KB982524, KB982168 and KB979909), then windows updates took care
of the remainder updates and I've believe my problem was resolved.

goodl luck!

Yes, when all else fails you must uninstall previously installed versions
and updates of .net framework and reinstall, restarting as necessary however
many times as is required. The special uninstallation tools have themselves
been updated since a year ago. Some methods involve the Windows Install
Cleanup tool.

How to reinstall or repair Windows Media Player 11
My Windows Media Player 11 is broken. It sounds horrible. The sound is garbled and no amount of adjustments change this. Previous attempts to get help fixing this have been unsuccessful. Incorrect Office Updates in Microsoft Update
Hello I recently did clean installs of XP and Win7 on 2 different PCs. Each PC was loaded with Office 2007. When I ran Microsoft Update after the Office installs, it shows I needed Office 2007 SP1, not SP2. I manually downloaded and installed Office 2007 SP2 and then checked Windows Updates for any needed patches. It still showed I needed Office 2007 SP1...even though I just installed SP2. Does anyone know how to 1) have Office SP2 show up as a needed update instead of SP1, and 2) how to configure Windows Update to show that no SP is needed after SP2 is installed? th...

SDI: Switching between main SDI app windows

This windows has several radio-button-groups, a CTreeCtrl, and a CRichEditCtrl. When I use the form editor to lay out the main SDI app window, I'm now using Arial 8. If I change the Properties for the entire window to something larger (like Arial 10 or 14), then all the controls have the font-size increased, and the controls themselves get bigger. This seems like an easier approach than changing the font size for each control, and figuri...

Microsoft Update 'left behinds'
Every time I download and install the latest Microsoft Update 'fixes' to XP-Pro, the file space taken up by XP-Pro grows and grows. While this will be an elementary question to many, is some of this XP-Pro file space 'growth' being caused by stuff that the 'fixes' leave behind and files that XP-Pro no longer needs? If so, can these 'left behind' files be gotten rid of so as to reclaim some HD space? Are there any pros and cons to deleting these 'left behind' files? Assuming that these 'left behind' files can be deleted, what i...
