Thanks for the info Russ, it's great to know at least we can get a 2
user version at no cost. I wish RIM would come up with a Small
business version for up to 10 users that's reasonably priced for small
law firms and businesses that cannot dish out 2.5K for Enterprise
Server. For now, those smaller businesses (at least my clients) have
been using iPhone because of ActiveSync. It's been working out great!

I was confused also by their words
It did look like 2
and then when I looked to buy licenses I couldn't find any
now it looks like it's up to 1000?
But at 75 they want you to put it on it's own server?

However for "SBSer's" that doesn't mater
75 is plenty...

The whole BlackBerry solution is still a massive kludge superimposed
over Exchange and/or Outlook, but at least they're removing the cost of the
software as an impediment. That still doesn't address the significantly
higher maintenance cost (in my experience) compared to ActiveSync on an
Exchange Server, but at least it's a start.

I've had my ActiveSync phone for almost two years now running off
our SBS 2003 and the only maintenance I've had to do after five minutes of
setup is to replace the battery. All the BlackBerries I've had to deal with
are a pain.

Based on a report by SBS MVP Jason Miller, who did install it on his SBS08 -
I'm not going to ;-). He's taking it off, and running it in a separate OS.
While it's clearly supported, and works, his concern was the number of
restarts the Blackberry server likes. Not only installation wise, but
configuration changes etc.

I'm installing the blackberry software in a virtual server vm today (vm
hosted by the SBS 03 box). Later, I'll give it a go in a hyper-v virtual
machine, along side an SBS08 hyper-v vm.

I think it depends on your tolerance for restarts, and possible
complications on the SBS. Generally, SBS is busy enough. When SBS 2k3 first
released, it had a fair bit of room for 3rd party apps. But as time went by,
WSUS and all, limitations of older hardware and 32bit OS, etc., there isn't
much room these days. SBS08 seems pretty full up as well, but new hardware,
premium, and hyper-v support make all the difference.
