PostMessage and memory leaks
if I have something along the lines of ...
void SomeFunction ( void *pBuffer, long len )
BYTE * pMessage = new BYTE[len];
memcpy( pMessage, pBuffer, len );
PostMessage( hSomeWnd, MYMSG, (WPARAM)len, (LPARAM)pMessage );
// in the window
LRESULT CMyWnd::OnMyMsg(WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam)
BYTE * pMessage = (BYTE*)lParm;
long len = (long)wParam;
// do some long work
delete  pMessage ;
My question is, how do I know that I will not loose any messages, (and in
turn have memory leaks).

Where is the repair feature to try and fix this problem?
Perhaps you could give us a few more details:-
What version Excel
When does the error occur
Is it specific to one file
Does it happen to all files
Does it happen with no files but when you start excel
All of these things help us enormously, and the trick to getting a good answer
is in asking a good question, else you end up dancing around with a dozen
different options whilst we run through the book..

We have observed that when we use the WinInet API's from a Service the

We have observed this using PMON and Task Manager.

One of the reasons is the following: pratically each application uses one or
more DLL; a DLL typically has some read only section (code) which can be
shared between several applications and read/write section (data) which is
not shared because it is different form application to application. The read
only section is mapped at the same physical address for every application

question, if you have a front end server (no mailboxes) and over 1 GB memory
to you need the /3GB switch?
question, does the info store need to run on a front end server?
Do not implement the /3GB switch on a front-end server.
Are you routing SMTP mail through your FE server? If so, the IS is
required. If it's just, say, OWA, then you can disable this service.
