RIP WLM(XP)

I was distressed to learn this morning that it seems likely that the next version of WLMail will not work on XP. I've a feeling that there are still quite a few dinosaurs like me around - Liveside say that 25% of visits to their site are from XP machines, compared with 13% Vista.
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/liveside/~3/r2Vze8YD3as/wave-4-essentials-to-require-vista-or-windows-7-no-xp.aspx

When Wave 2 was introduced, Wave 1 WLMail stopped working with Hotmail (remember all those 'deprecated version' errors?). I wonder if the same will happen now...

Hmm, in fact existing Windows Live also does not fully support Windows XP:
http://www.betanews.com/article/New-Windows-Live-Movie-Maker-debuts-says-goodbye-to-XP-for-good/1250716270

On the other hand, Office 2010 will still be compatible with 32-bit XP:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/office2010/thread/5e667006-04b4-4a20-affc-ef16d3fb8e84

but maybe some of the video capabilities will not work in XP:
http://blogs.msdn.com/powerpoint/archive/2010/01/05/powerpoint-2010-hardware-acceleration.aspx

Anyhow, it would be nice if the next wave of WLM will also splash on XP (I would probably still use OE6 if
I could install it on the new Windows 7 x64 laptop ...).

Outlook 6 on XP
Hi I hope someone has encountered this. I have Windows XP running with office 97. I have Outlook 6 running. The problem is that my spell checker in outlook doesn't work. On checking the spelling I get - "An error has occured while speeling was being checked" I have run the repair from the CD. I have also removed spell checking and re-installed it. Spell checking works in ALL my other office products. The problem only occurs in Outlook. Thanks Ian http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;224176 might be helpful. Excel XP
If there is text currently in a cell and you highlight it then click on the double underline icon, it displays as a double underline on screen, in print preview, and when you print a hard copy. However, if you click the double underline icon first, then type text into a cell, it appears as a bold, single underline on screen and in print preview but it will be a double underline when you print a hard copy. WLM deleted email coming back
I'm using a POP with my isp. I download all email, so they are not left on the server. I have the 'delete email on exit' option ticked. The problem I have a lot is that a few of my messages that I delete will show back up in my inbox as unread, but when I click on the message, there is no contents to view. I have to delete it a second time to permanently get rid of the email. Not a big deal, but just curious as to why this might be. If its a known bug then I can be patient. Another issue I have is when WLM asks to compress files upon exit, but at the very end...

Matching CTabCtrl Background Color on XP
I've added a CTabCtrl to my dialog box. The tab control displays the contents of several dialog templates, depending on which tab is selected. This is working pretty good now but the child dialogs' background color do not match the background color of the tab control on themed XP. The child dialogs' background colors are the old button face while the tab control's background is almost white. I've searched the Internet quite a bit. I've read I should trap WM_CTLCOLOR like this: HBRUSH CPanel::OnCtlColor(CDC* pDC, CWnd* pWnd, UINT nCtlColor) { HBRUSH hbr = CDialog:...

Digital Certificate problems with Office XP SP2
My organization recently rolled out Office XP SP2 to all our workstations. We have a MS Enterprise CA and use Exchange 2000 (Latest SP) for internal mail. Before we rolled out SP2 we used digital certificates without a hitch to sign critical data for non-repudiation purposes. After we rolled it out, suddenly if you forward a message or reply to it and try to attach a digital signature, Outlook reports a fatal error and will not send the message or...in some cases reports a fatal error and still sends the message. Outlook Backup XP Pro failure to Install
Hi When installing pfbackup.exe on a number of desktops I found that two PC's did not show the option on the file menu after installation. All others were OK. On these two PC's, logging on as Administrator and reinstalling pfbackup.exe does not work, because install states item is already installed, but there is nothing showing to un-install.
