How can I convert a timeline to be vertically oriented?

How can I convert a timeline to be vertically oriented? Microsoft says it's
possible on a few web pages but I can't find instructions.

I don't know that it's possible to change the timeline orientation in Visio
2000... it's my understanding that feature was introduced in Visio 2003.
Did the example you went by specify a version?

It's a Microsoft page talking about how wonderful 2003 is. Thanks for the
help - at least I now know I can't do this.

I think I might be able to find someone with a copy of Visio 2002 in my
office. Does anybody know if 2002 can do this?

No. Visio 2003 is the first version that has this capability.

You need ones do timeline vertically oriented, next time all be vertically
oriented.
All in Visio 2000.
Open master as Group.
Uncheck Rotation protection of text. Rotate it, close as Group.
Next uncheck Rotation protection of timeline. Rotate it vertically. Then
close master.
On Page do some intervals, and open again as group and select text block
tool.
Selection on interval and open ShapeSheet for it
In ShapeSheet change TxtAngle to GUARD(-180 deg). Then increase text block
and do left alignment. Ones you do this for maximum intervals, and next time
they don't change orientation.
Save it as master and use as vertical timeline.
It's not a simple, but it's can.

Right-click on master and select Edit Master.
In edit window Edit>Open Group.
If you want "step by step", e-mail me.

What version of Visio are you using?
In Visio 2003, it is just a matter of dragging one of the ends of the
timeline until the timeline is vertical.

In 2000, it will require more work.

Select the timeline and open it's ShapeSheet (the command is under the
Window menu)

In the first section "Shape Transform" change the formula for Angle to "=0"
(The original formula has a guard on it)

In the Protection Section, set LockRotate to 0. If the Protection section is
not visible, select Sections... from the View menu and click All, then Ok.

This will allow you to rotate the timeline, but the text will also rotate.

Since this shape was not designed to rotate, there is no attempt to keep the
text level. To keep the text level, you will have to select the "Open Group"
command from the Edit menu. (It's the last item on the menu, but it may be
called "Open Timeline"). Then select each text field and open their
shapesheet. In the Text Transform section change the TxtAngle from "0" to
"GUARD(IF(BITXOR(FlipX,FlipY),Angle,-Angle))"

how can I show leading zeros in excel
I am trying to input some numeric data into a spreadsheet, some of the entries have leading zeros, every time I move to the next cell, Excel changes the data by removing the leading zeros. I have tried reformating the cells in question in Number & General, both give me the same problem. Can somebody please help. Using Excel 2002. Thanks. You could either format the cell as Text (then type your data) or you can start with an apostrophe '000123 or you can use a custom format: Format|cells|number tab custom in the type box, put as many 0's as you want 000000 The first two op...

Money Can't Set up a Mortgage Right!
I have issues with Money 2003. I bought a house Nov 2003. I set up the mortgage account and tell it my purchase date. It starts the loan 1/1/2004 because it assumes I have paid Nov interest at closing and won't owe anything until 1/1/2004. This screws up my net worth reports because I had a home asset in Nov 03, but the loan liability doesn't appear until Jan 04. Broken! I can't seem to set the loan date to force it to recognize the Nov loan beginning date. What to do?? Can Function results be calculated?
Hi all I have a sheet with two columns of figures. I show the running totals of each column in cells with basic SUM Functions, at the top of the sheet. I now want to subtract one total from the other. How is this done? As the Function is looking at cells that themselves hold Functions, I can't see how to do this, short of making a longer Function that adds the column contents again and then subtracts. So, in summary: I have two cells with Functions. These are: Cell F4 =SUM(F8:F45) and Cell G4 =SUM(G8:G45) I want to do this: =F4-G4 but it won't play. Any advice most appreciated....

How to convert a Chinese registry value from within a US code page?
First of all, our Win32 MFC VC++ app is not written in Unicode as it should have been. Given that - it reads uninstall information from the windows Uninstall registry tree and writes it to a report. It writes out the displayname of the application. Normally this is not a problem, but when it encounters a Chinese application name, it displays the name as question marks. I assume this is because the string is in Unicode in the registry, but our app is not Unicode so it can't represent the characters. Unfortunately for the moment, converting this very large app to Unicode is not an o...
