Outlook's "AutoComplete" for cc, bcc etc... seem to remember email addresses
for a few days only. Can we extend the time?
Autocomplete does not "forget" names. The autocomplete cache stores up to
1000 names. What version of Outlook are you using?

When I am filling in a cell I will often use the "@" symbol, for email
addresses or directions etc. I would like to turn this feature off but
haven't been able to find a way to do so. Unchecking the autocomplete for
cell values option in the Advanced Excel Options doesn't do the trick.

In Outlook 2000, I could type a portion of the filename I wanted to
attach to a mesage, and Outlook would fill in the rest of the name.
Since my IT department upgraded me, that doesn't seem to work anymore,
and it was really useful to me -- is there any way to retain or
recreate this functionality in Outlook 2002 or later?

auto-completion of data validation using a combo box.
I would like to call up the combobox in a single click, instead of a double
click as per the current code.
Also, I am able to enter an invalid value (ie, value not from the data
validation) list in the combo box.
Is it possible to modify the code to
1. Call up the combobox in a single click
2. Prevent an invalid input, whether by direct entry or copy/paste (value or
all) into the cell having the validation

I am making a text list down 1 column of at least 1000
rows. I need Excel to continue to scan all entries for

Name Autocomplete is very usefull. I use it all the time.
However, there are several people who have changed email addresses.
Since I've sent emails to these 'new' addresses, I now have multiple entries
per person - one of these entries good, the rest being obsolete.
How do I get rid of these obsolete autocomplete suggestions?
Happy New Year!
You can simply highlight the unwanted email address and delete it.

In Outlook 2000, where do you have the option to have the addresses pop into

Autocomplete did not become an option until Outlook 2002. Older versions
have a feature called auto-resolution. If you enter part of a name or a
nickname then tab out of the field (or hit Alt-K [Check Names]), Outlook
will attempt to resolve the name against your address book. If it can't
it'll red underline it and you can right click on the name to manually

I know I am being dumb, and probably a little lazy, but it's too early in

What are the tables that autocomplete stores it's information in?
Thanks and I appreciate the help.
According to KB article 898982, the Autocomplete entries are stored in two
files: AutoCmpl.dat and AutoCmpl.idx. You can view the contents with a text
editor, but as far as I know you can't change them. They appear to be some
sort of database file, but I don't know what kind.
You can find them in the following location:

Auto complete doesn't work for my entire list of 4200 rows. List has
no empty cells, sorted alphabetically and all upper case. Is there
something wrong with my list or is there a limit to the list length?
Yes, I did some investigations some years ago and discovered that
there were limits, but I can't remember what they were and I haven't
been able to retrieve the post with the details in.
Hope this helps.

works fine. I attempted a fix found on here but it did not work. When you go
