CRITICAL SECTION Help!
OK, I have two threads running. One handles an encoder input with a hardware counter/timer and determines a frequency (as intFrequency) over a small interval ( 1 second ). The other thread needs to use the measured frequency. I am confused about how to use a critical section to allow the first thread to update the value of intFrequency and be certain that the second thread can get a valid value for intFrequency everytime it needs it. Where do I put the critical section? Do I make it a global declaration and use the enter/leave members from both threads? Is there an good on-line tutoria...

When making corrections to my file (several pages) after a while I get a message, Publisher can not save my file and it shut's down without saving. After the next startup the same proceedure. That way I never get to an end. What version Publisher? Open the file in safe mode, if you have no problems saving then it probably is a driver issue. Earlier versions of Publisher saved all printer information with the file, if the driver is corrupt you will get errors. -- Mary Sauer MS MVP http://office.microsoft.com/ http://msauer.mvps.org/ news://msnews.microsoft.com "Kurt" <Ku...

Query about a formula I'm working on
I was wondering if it is possible to make this query less longwinded? =(IF(D17>0,(((A1-C17)/(A1/D17))+C17))+IF(E17>0,((A1-(((A1-C17)/(A1/D17))+C17))/(A1/E17))))+IF(F17>0,(A1-(((A1-C17)/(A1/D17)+((A1-(((A1-C17)/(A1/D17))+C17))/(A1/E17)))+C17))/(A1/F17)) A1= max value C17=base value D17,E17,F17= variable value's I've been working on the Value for a Calc for a game I've been playing lately. I'm using it to work out damage resistances but I feel the formula could be streamlined but for the life of me my brain has gone blank. Example: A1=100 C17 = 60 for arguments sak...

trying to link data between workbooks and worksheets
Below is what the Excel XP Help says about linking, and it makes no sense to me, nor does it work. How do I really link data between separate workbooks? What I want to do is see the same information in the Destination sheet as in the Source sheet, and keep the info current. Merely copying it won't keep it current. And how does Microsoft get by with writing such sloppy work? Create a link between cells in different workbooks 1.. Open both the workbook that will contain the link (called the destination workbook), and the workbook that contains the data you want to link to (called the s...

Serucity Patch and Outlook 2000 Mail Merge
We use Outlook with an Exchange server. Outlook 2000 with latest update and Exchange 5.5SP4 plus updates. We have a contact folder and started a mail merge from Outlook. It works great and we're able to use, add, test, and confirm the fields and formats that we like. We are using it to merge into an email message. Everything works fine. One item we'd like to get around when sending the merge to Outlook it prompts twice at every contact - once asking if we want to allow access to Outlook and to this prompt we can respond allow access for x minutes. This prompt is ok because when mergi...

Local Administrator Corporate Network
We currently have all our users as local administrators. A couple of years ago we attempted to restrict our desktops, but fail short due to particular applications requiring local permissions while the user themselves were logged in. We continue to fall flat when applications we do not want installed, example: Google Toolbars, google earth, and Google search (most recent events). The problem is that there are several web-based applications that are used throughout our office that require installing plug-ins, Palm devices that require administrator permissions to install, and other si...

Trying to truncate or separate the first 3 characters/digits of co
I have a spreadsheet with a column of numbers. I'm trying to extract / truncate / remove the leading 3 digits in each cell. The numbers vary in length, so using the LEFT or RIGHT function doesn't seem to be an option. The numbers represent division / dept. numbers within my company. The leading 3 digits represent the division, which I want to remove / discard. =RIGHT(TEXT(A1,"0"),LEN(TEXT(A1,"0"))-3) -- Kind regards, Niek Otten "Jim" <Jim@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9393C07F-6B74-4CCA-A1EB-E0A1B9622535@microsoft.com...

after to try add DC win 2008 into AD server 2003, dns problems
Hello. For a situation that has happened. My domain, Midominio.com example, running on a Server 2003 Standard Edition, with DNS name resolution server as Active Directory integrated. So far so good! The client requested a new server to integrate with Windows 2008 Server enterprise edition, as additional domain controller. I then decided to implement: 1) adprep / forestprep 2) adprep / domainprep / gpprep The system reported ok. Then on the server 2008, I ran dcpromo / adv TCPIP with the following configuration: a) Server 2003 domain controller: ip: 192.168.1.10 / 16; dns: 192.16...

XP makes me feel like I'm in a Foreign Country
In 1998 I installed Win98. Soon upgraded it to 98SE. I've been running Win98 ever since. A few times I got a better or faster computer, but just moved the old hard drive to the new machine, installed a few drivers for the new hardware, and was set to go. All these years I said I'd never upgrade and was satisfied with Win98 for my needs. Well, I just bought a new (second hand) Pentium 4, 2.8ghz processor, 1gig Ram. It came with a licensed copy of XP SP3 installed and ready to go. Plus MS Office and a few other programs, including Roxio for the built in DVD burner. Wel...
