MSN Sync - Reviews on security?

Is anyone aware of any reviews or studies establishing the security of the
information on MSN? As I mentioned in another post, I've been hesitant to
sync all my financial info with MS servers, but if there has been any 3rd
party validation of security and privacy I may consider it.

Thanks!

VBA
First let me send my thanks out to Pieter who has helped me a great deal on something else but that help has allowed me to get to this point, and Wolfgang who directed me to an MSDN site where I found the rest of what I needed for this one. Thanks to you all.. I have written the code below to run as a toggle from a command button and everything seems to work fine except displaying the changes to the properties of the commandbutton. Specifically the transparent property. The button should be transparent when the StartUp Options are set to secure the DB, and visible when the DB is unse...

Entourage calendar not syncing with iCal
Hi, I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8 with Office for Home & Student 12.2.2. I have been successful syncing contacts with the address book on the Mac, but not with the calendar in iCal, but isn't syncing at all. We even tried to load a new profile on Entourage and see if it would show up on iCal, with no luck. I've been working with Microsoft for Mac and we've tried everything, took it to the next level of support and it came down to talking with Mac. They haven't been helpful. Microsoft seems to think it's somewhere in Sync Services. At one point I cleared ...

Conversion from UTF32 to UTF8 for review
I used the two tables from this link as the basis for my design: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTF-8 I would like this reviewed for algorithm correctness: void UnicodeEncodingConversion:: toUTF8(std::vector<uint32_t>& UTF32, std::vector<uint8_t>& UTF8) { uint8_t Byte; uint32_t CodePoint; UTF8.reserve(UTF32.size() * 4); // worst case for (uint32_t N = 0; N < UTF32.size(); N++) { CodePoint = UTF32[N]; if (CodePoint <= 0x7F) { Byte = CodePoint; UTF8.push_back(Byte); } else if (CodePoint <= 0x7FF) { Byt...

Remote Access Security
Would like to know how to prevent someone from accessing the server remotely. Periodically, I see a high number of LOGON FAILURES where someone in the world is trying to gain access to our server (SBS 2003) remotely and entering a myriad of different user names. Is there a way to set a policy to allow a maximum number of attempts from an IP address? You don't specify if this is Premium (with ISA) or Standard, but I'm guessing Standard. There really isn't a way to do exactly what you're asking that I'm aware of, but you do have some options. The first of which...

Sync to iCal Issues Entourage users are not alone
I was exploring a piece of software, Spanning Sync that will sync iCal to the Google calendar. Possibly useful for Entourage users when Sync Services bugs gets ironed out. <http://spanningsync.com/> On their blog they talk about the sync problems introduced by Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5.2. <http://blog.spanningsync.com/2008/02/mac-os-x-1052-f.html> <quote> As promised by Apple, 10.5.2 fixes the notorious Leopard iCal bug present in 10.5 and 10.5.1. Unfortunately that bug was replaced by a new bug with nearly identical symptoms: calendar events don't show up in iCal. I'...

EWS: Calendar categories lost reviewing Exchange Public Folder Calendar
Title says it all. I've created a calendar in Outlook 2007 (SBS 2008/Exchange 2007). It's in a "favorite" Public Folder so that it's reviewable by all logged in domain users and editable by two of us. Making it a favorite Public Folder calendar is what made it available to to users logging in over Outlook Web Access. However, on my Mac, none of the category attributes for appointments/events are retained by the entries. The curious thing is that the categories themselves DID make it to the Mac when I created a personal calendar that I shared with other Outlook ...

FileSystemWatcher and syncing database with changes
I’m creating an application (just started) with a front end (GUI) and backend (database). The database will be populated with file related data populated from the FileSystemWatcher. I want to discuss the database design and how it relates to the files and their paths and how information is obtained via FileSystemWatcher. Since folders usually contain multiple files, I thought it would be a good idea to have a file table and a folder table. Since file names (without path) may not be unique, I thought using an integer as a primary key would work well especially if the file ge...

Update on the Leopard iCal Sync Bug
When syncing calendars on Leopard using any sync software it's possible for the iCal sync program ("iCalExternalSync") to get confused and stop syncing. The primary symptom of this bug is that updated events stop appearing in iCal, but continue to show up in other synchronized devices and applications. For example, if you use Spanning Sync to sync Google Calendar with iCal and also use iTunes to sync iCal with your iPhone, events from Google Calendar will sync to your iPhone but not to iCal. The bug is fairly rare but can affect any user at any time. And when it does strike, it...

Web Activities Sync to outlook calendar?
Hi, Other than using SFO, is there a 3rd party addon to sync activities created by the web client to the calendar of the owner or the attendee? Thanks Mike Hi. There is a "hotfix" from Microsoft (I dont know why they call it a hotfix) that make it work. I have not installed it myself, but will do in a short time. Reviews of IMF add on products

98/2000 Security Patch Removal
I had outlook 98 and installed the MS security patch. This caused an error everytime I access my contacts either directly or through sending an email. I installed office 2000 and outlook 2000 over this and the error persists. I have outlook v9.0.02711, pre built in security patch. I use the workgroup setup. I am not opposed to security for attachments but I find the error message which is non-fatal very annoying. How can I remove the security patch? Easily. If I uninstall and reinstall office 2000 , will profiles be preserved with the uninstall? Can they be saved? Interesting that I still ...

Following the instructions of Microsoft and other users (via this forum) we cannot sync our Outlook 2003 calendar with CRM or a CRM appointment with outlook. No matter what we try, it does not work. Anyone have any ideas where to look for potential problems? Hi Ed, in general it is a one way sync. This mean, that you will only see the CRM appointments inside your outlook calendar. IE8 Security Update Problem
Since the IE security update this week (I have IE8) I cannot click on any drop-down boxes on any webpage (such as the one to select which discussion group to post in contained in this "New Question" popup), it just freezes and then crashes the browser (hourglass appears followed by "Internet Explorer must close" box). This is happening with all dropdown boxes on all websites (and surveys) I have tried in the last couple of days. I cannot be sure that it is due to the latest security update but there were no problems of this kind before. Any suggestions on h...

Security & Reports
I did not mind the change from a list that could be selected from to your pre-fab for a company of 10,000 employees - Roles (sounds cool though - a buzz word these days?). However, since no reports actually print the report numbers listed in the create roles part of security, it is a real pain to try and put together things for companies that have employees that do multiple jobs. Printed reports, should reference the number assigned to them in the security section so that they can be identified. And, NO, the names do not match up either. ---------------- This post is a suggestion fo...

How many minutes is reasonable to wait after cancelling "Update securities"?
The answer = 0! A few seconds, well Ok. But let's say that you cancel because it's taking so damn long (even with a broadband connection). Is it reasonable to wait 10 minutes? Obviously not. As a software developer, I know that the number 1 criteria is user response. I also know that more advanced developers usually allow a thread to be signaled so that it can be timed out, usually with an event. So MS is using IE components to download - that's fine. But spin off a thread that calls the IE components and that can handle the cancellation request. And for those of you who w...
