Money Plus Deluxe 2008 Spending Tracker slowdown issue...

I've narrowed down a few things on Money Plus Deluxe 2008....

1a. The slowness of start-up comes from having the Spending Tracker placed
on the home screen. Each time you click to another
area-register/bills/Budget/etc-and click back to home, it takes it longer
and longer to get back and refresh the home screen each time you navigate
away and come back.

1b. What have I done to determine this?
        a. I have turned off the MSN syncing, turned off the sponsorship
link, removed the Passport Features and the password on the file with no
gain of speed.
        b. I did a Standard File Report at the request of MS Support
indicating there might be corruption in my file. the repair reported no
broken links or issues with my file.
        c. Once I took the Spending Tracker module off the home screen, it
became instantly faster.
        d. I re-enabled all the other feature noted above in A & B aside
from the tracker and it runs as it should and not slowly!

1c. The issue is apparent on both Vista Home Premium AND Windows XP
Home...so it's not an Operating System issue. I tried both.

2. The two major additions to M+ is the INSIGHTS module and the Software
Activation Process. The rest is Money 2007 with a new name on it.

3. Looks like a few bugs were fixed, but that's other users reporting in. I
haven't noticed either way.

So, I will keep this edition and hope I can use the SPENDING TRACKER once a
patch is released to speed it up. Doh!

I also did a NUKE THE BILLS and received no increase of speed, so all it did
was blank out my bills. :(

OK. As an experiment, you might consider making a copy of your file
under a different name. Open that copy. Remove Bills. Put at least
some bills back. Then see the SPENDING TRACKER back then runs
acceptably fast. If the results are not promising, switch back to
your un-modified file.

File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData

This Remove All Bills Data feature would be for people who have
experienced their Money file to run excessively slow.

To get some information within the program,
File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData
Read the information. Then click cancel.

Before proceeding, make an extra copy or backup of your file
in case you want to undo something.

The problem will be that if you remove all bills, you will probably
want to add at least some of your bills back. This can be done
manually with the aid of the reports that you print out before
removing the bills.

A technique that could help simplify re-entering your bills
afterward would be to go your register and selecting a
representative instance of your past bill and selecting "Make
Recurring" (Ctrl+E). This would be especially helpful if the bill
is complex, such as involving a split.

Cal,

Thanks for the tips...I've tried those and have had no luck with them....and
I am doing this TWICE..on two computers-once Vista and one XP Home
simultaneously and I'm trying all the tips you and others have mentioned.

The frustrating piece is I don't use many of the features that aren't budget
or tax related, so the one thing I need is the one thing that slows down the
WHOLE program... Spending Tracker!

After an extensive interaction with MS Money support, here is there
response:

"Thank you for the additional information. We are currently tracking
this(Spending Tracker slowdown) issue. In the meantime, to speed up
the program you will have to remove the spending tracker from the home
page.

If there is an update released in the near future, hopefully there
will be a fix for this issue.

At this time I am going to close your case as not resolved."

So, for now, the core module I use has been relegated to "Unusable"
status. Any other ideas?

Microsoft has identified this problem to exist if you have a lot of
unprocessed transactions. There is work underway to update the KB
article to help deal with processing the transactions. So if you
process or delete the statements, you should be able to restore the
module(s) to your "Home Page".

On your Account List, I would un-tick
SortAccountListBy->HideClosedAccounts and see if any accounts have
TransactionsToRead listed. If so, deal with them. If this is for a
closed account that you don't want the transactions for, I would
right-click where it say you have TransactionsToRead and
DeleteStatement.

Cal,

I had the same slow load time issue and the only fix was to remove the
spending tracker from the Money Home Page. I had no unprocessed
transactions/statements on open or closed accounts.

I truely beleive this is nothing more than a bug in the new version since I
have used the spending tracker since it first came out without the 2-3 minute
delay and when I upgraded to Vista 6 months ago, Money 2007 worked fine, so
this is not an OS issue.

Microsoft needs to fix this ASAP!
