2006 Yodlee changes?

The fact that you're using Yodlee to sync shouldn't require a Passport or
data on MS servers. Password and other info could be held on your local PC
like other online services, or accessed via an existing Yodlee account.

Does Money 2006 still require a Passport and all data on MS servers to
utilize the Yodlee sync services?

Thanks - John

I don't know for sure, but if I tell you I think this has not changed in M06
I will surely incite a better answer if there is one. I think it was a key
part of the implementation design--I think they actually do the Yodlee sync
stuff server-side and just use the legacy sync with the web stuff to get it
to your local PC. Again, I'm not sure of this and say it in part to coax a
better answer out of the firmament.

Since Yodlee accounts update in MSN Money even without a Money sync, that
seems reasonable to me.

Thanks to you and (as always) Dick for replying.

Making this change would have been a looooong shot, but _I_ for one would
have loved it :)

Why do we require MSN servers to help out with Yodlee accounts?

It's partly historical, partly technical, and partly motivated by security
concerns.

MSN Money first implemented Yodlee aggregation for synchronization data on
the web site, and MS Money independently synchronized with the MSN Money
data store. So, the simplest implementation at the time was to hook those
two pieces together.

Of course, the fact that Yodlee at the time didn't have a system to supply
aggregated data to client desktops was a factor in our design as well. It
simply wouldn't have been possible to implement aggregation via Yodlee
without connecting to an intermediate server. (I am not aware that things
have changed.)

Not only was Yodlee's design well informed by security concerns, but this
overall design does have one additional desirable attribute. Your bank login
information is not stored on MSN Servers, and in fact it is not even passed
through during synchronization; Yodlee holds on to that privately and
securely.

Along the same lines, has the security design been revised to avoid the
problem of Passport users being locked out of their own financial data on
their local computer? That, more than anything else, makes me leery of
assigning a Passport to my file.

I'm not on a screaming diatribe about incompetence - it's a simple human
error of entering the wrong ip address in a server. Microsoft can try to
reduce the risk but, I don't think it can be reduced to zero.

I have two accounts that sync through Yodlee, Capitol One and City
National of West Virginia. When I had M05, sometimes the connection
with Yodlee would just disappear and you would have to go through the
whole online setup routine again. This is still happening in M06. Is
there a fix for this?

Thanks.
