Save External Link Values
What exactly is Save External Link Values, and is it necessary for linked files? I keep getting a message that says 'Not enough memory'....'unable to save external link values'. Before I turned it off, I'd like to know what I'm doing to the workbook. The help files don't seem to have anything on it, or it's listed in some obscure way.
There's no harm in turning it off.
I have it off in all my large data sheets, not for the memory problem, but
to reduce the time it takes to open the large sheets on some of the "old"
machines around the office.

I like to zoom all documents I'm working on to 185% in Page View in
Microsoft Word for Mac 2004. I'd like this to be the default view
when I open any Word documents. How can I save this workspace so
every document is opened at 185% zoom? Every time I save my document
in this zoom, when I open it again its back to 122% zoom. I've
looksed in prefs, but can find no settings. Thanks!
You should find that documents will re-open with the same zoom value you had
when you closed them (and the same view, e.g. Page Layout view).

saving the document as it repeatedly recalculates the number of words in the

Is there a way, in Excel 2002, to only save the cells or
worksheets that have been updated, instead of saving the
entire file each time? I have a large file, with VBA code,
and is I could set it to only save the updated cells or
worksheets, this would decrease the time needed to save
the file. I read about Tools, Options and Allow Fast
Saves, but when I follow that path, there is no such
option to Allow Fast Saves.

I have a spreadsheet that I'm using to create sales quotes. Quotes
should have a unique quote number. If you change an expiration date,
you should have a new quote number. If you change a quantity, you

You should make a backup of the PST file periodically so as not to lose
important information in the event of a hard drive crash or malware
infestation. As to the Office installation , just simply install it. No
problem. Bigger question, why are you UNinstalling it?

I don't know if this is a feature or what but here's what happens:
I have set some Account duplicate detection rules. If I modify an
account that triggers a dedup rule, I get the dedup window so I say
"Save the Record" to force the saving of the newly-modified record.
This has an effect similar to assigning that record to another owner,
even if it keeps the same owner. A major side effect of assigning an
account, is that all its children (Contacts, Activities...) get
assigned to the new owner.

I have a webpage containing a link to a spreadsheet
When the link is clicked a spreadsheet opens in internet explorer
using some sort of excel COM object.
I would like to enable the user to edit the spreadsheet and then
save the changes in the existing file. How ever IE only offers
"save as" not "save" and it dosent suggest the original filename.
The users already have write acces to the area where the excel
sheet is published. How do i make IE suggest the original filename
or enable the "save" menu??

Excel 2000, Just in last two day i haved been losing the
information in my saved workbooks. I save file and can
close it and reopen the info is saved, but if i close
excel and reopen it the info i just saved is gone and it
is back to the info before i saved it. I have used this
program for over 3 years and never had a problem. Could

I have a workbook that contains 1,000 rows. The workbook has months
accross (from Jan-01 to present). There are 'Sumif' formulas in every
cell for every month. When the workbook was first created it would
save on demand. However, the file now takes approximately 2 - 3
minutes to save. I suspect the numerous 'Sumif' formulas carry a lot
of overhead. What can I do to get it to save faster.

I am using Franklin Covey's PlanPlus for Outlook. I have goals set and I
check them off, I would like to be able to either have them "disappear" when
checked or at least move them off the list and back them up monthly or every
6 months. Tech support at FC says I need to delete the completed goals
manually and they are not backed up anywhere they are deleted permenantly.
Seems very basic for such a nicely designed system.

When i receive an email i place it in a certain folder within the inbox for
example if it is from company A then it gets placed in the Company A folder.
The majority of the time i recieve attachments to these emails. Is it
possible when i go to "save as" to default to a directory based upon the
folder that the email is in.

In the Office 2000 version of Publisher, I was able to save files in a Web
format that included separate .html and graphic files. Now, with Publisher
2003, the "Save As Web" function creates file outputs that are no longer
compatible with Adobe Acrobat. Is there a way to save Publisher files inthis
older format for the Web?

Hi all, Just wondering if someone can help me.
I have Sheet A with Col C with Town Names... and Col A with
the postcode. there is about 150 towns.
I then have another sheet... Sheet B... which has about 20
rows of information...some of which grabs information the
contents of A1 and C1 from Sheet B.... into functions.
