Office 2008 Setup Assistant Repeatedly Crashes

Installed Office 2008 via Remote Disc to a Macbook Air. When launching Office Apps, Office Setup Assistant opens but when I attempt to continue it crashes. Here's the error report

I think the installer is getting confused because it can't find the
Microsoft User Data folder on the remote disk.

I have sent this off to Curt Laird, the Microsoft Software Engineer in Test,
who may have something that will help.

Cheers

OK, I have a request from the Microsoft developer who is investigating this
problem:

Can you try something for me?
1) After you install, quit the setup assistant dont even let it go
through one pane

2) Disconnect from all external drives/DVDs/CDs

3) Launch the setup assistant either from itself (in the Office
folder) or by launching one of the other apps

Also, is there already a Documents folder on the machine? And is there a
Microsoft User Data folder in there (ex. bad install for some reason, and
now failing when trying to read that first bad run)?

Please let me know what the answers are, and I can pass them on.

Cheers

Office was a fresh install on a new computer, so there was no Microsoft User Data folder. We did already move some docs into the Documents folder.

We've tried launching with nothing connected as well as by launching individual apps. It always defaults to the Setup Assistant and crashes in the same fashion.

Would it make sense to trash the currently installed version of Office 2008 and start over from scratch via Remote Disc?

I have been talking to the Development Engineer who wrote the Setup
Assistant behind the scenes.

I assume you tried the procedure he recommended, exactly? I'll tell him it
didn't work.

In the meantime, yes, what you suggest makes sense to me: be sure to take
out the Microsoft folder in Preferences when you do this.

Hope this helps

I have the same exact problem, and can only get it to work by logging
in as another USER. Which isn't a very practical solution.

No, you have a quite different problem :-)

Start a new thread, and we'll talk you through fixing it. Your problem is
quite different to the other one, he can't get it to work anywhere.

Problems with Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac
I am studying (and have assignments piling up) and have two ongoing problems I hope someone can help solve: 1/ In View>Print Layout I always see the blue formatting, making it hard to read so it drives me crazy. How do I get rid of it? I've tried everything I can think of! 2/ When I Insert>Picture it always messes up the entire document. I have to fiddle around for ages with every tool imagineable to get things looking ok again. No that's an understatement, I can never really get it to look right! Can someone out there PLEASE HELP ME? Hi Laine; The first ...

Wanted: Outlook Expert for Personal Assistance
Hello, I'm looking for an Outlook expert who is willing to provide me with personal assistance for a couple of problems that I've been having. Ideally phone assistance would be best, but instant messaging would also work. I'd like to find someone who really knows his/her stuff and I will of course be paying for the help. I've been having various problems with Outlook for the last week and even after a fresh install received a software exception error forcing me to shutdown. Additionally, I have a repeating Warning message in my Event Viewer ... "The MOF file created fo...

Office Professional '07 UPGRADE
I was doing an upgrade from Office Pro '03 to '07, and hit an error calling for C:\TEMP\SKU011.CAB. The CAB was not anywhere on the machine so I copied the file from another machine to the TEMP folder, then another CAB, then another. I'm not sure where the files went, but I had them on another machine so I copied the entire folder from one machine to the other, and the upgrade finished okay. It ran a bit on the slow side, but I'm thinking this is a hardware issue not a file location issue. It's a bit of a pain to have the qualified base for an upgrade i...

Every time I go to download the update for Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.5 I get this "message Firefox can't find the server at download.microsoft.com" which I think is odd. Or is it? What gives? Eliminate Read, Delivery, and Out of Office Receipts
We have a user that needs to monitor numerous mailboxes in our Exchange 2003 domain. This monitoring is done very discreetly. Basically we want the Monitor to receive any email sent to the recipient. We achived this by forwarding all mail to the monitor's mail box while still delivering to the intended recipient, in the Exchange General\Delivery Options\Forwarding Address area. The problem now is the Monitor is out of the office and has set an out of opffice reply on their mailbox and everyone that sends email to the recipient is receiving an out of office reply from the monitor...

GP Setup Checklists or Forms
Is there a good source somewhere for help in getting an implementation started? I'm looking specifically for forms or checklists that can be given to the customer for Vendor Setup or Customer Setup or any other module setup. Problem converting Quicken to Money 2008
I am trying out the new Money since I'm having so much trouble downloading quotes from Quicken. When I convert, it MOSTLY goes ok, but for some reason, certain transfers dating after Oct. of 2005 do not get converted as transfers. They are generally withdrawals from my checking account that get transfered to the Cash account. Cash transfers that are part of a split show up fine as transfers, but transfers that are not part of a split have nothing in the category section, and Money treats them as expenses. There are also a lot of transfers from checking to pay my credit card that...

Overriding default SBS 2008 policies
We have an SBS 2008 located at one site of a multi-site network connected via site-to-site VPN tunnels. I added a group policy that explicitly allowed Remote Desktop through the Windows firewall for the three subnets involved. However, the SBS 2008 canned Windows XP Policy lists "localsubnet" only and took precedence over my group policy. This prevented me from making RDP connections across the VPN. I edited the canned policy directly to substitute my own preferences, but will SBS 2008 erase that the next time a wizard is run? Could I get the desired effect in...
