long text not visible in the cell of excel

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

when the number of words get beyond a certain (a small) amount, the text suddently becomes unreadable, turning into the #####. the formatting has been set to "wrap" the text. was there some setting i should change?

the following text is ok:

"2009 deficit is $1.4tn, an all time record in dollar terms. It was $958bn above the 2008 deficit, the previous record holder. It's 9.9%gdp. The record percentage belongs to 1945 of wwii-era 21.5%
debt ceiling is $12.1tn, expected to be reached by dec, per"

but if i add one more word to the end, such as "nov ", then the whole text becomes "############" in the display.

thanks.

Something's fishy. Look in Excel help for specifications and limits and
you will find that the number of characters that can be diaplayed in a
cell is limited. However, the limit is larger than the text you posted.
I can enter that in a cell and a whole lot more without it becomming
###. Is it actually text, or is it a formula that says ="2009 deficit.....
if the latter yoiu will find that the length of formula text is also
limited.

visible cell only

Auto-format in Microsoft Excel.
Each time i try to enter a number range, for example, 8- 10, in Excel, it constantly re-formats it to a date. If I change the formatting to "General" it turns it into a random number, usually 38209. I would like to turn off ALL auto-formatting, but that's probably asking too much. How do I disable this frustrating feature? thanks. Hi Paul When you enter "8-10" in a cell, that's not strictly a number but Excel thinks you mean a date so converts it as such. A date is a number and in your example the number 38209 represents August 10 2004 which is not a ra...
