Hello Everone, I could be wrong but
1.. Is there a simplified document or step-by-step follow up =
available; to restore the data from ver.9.0 to 10.0 and make it =
workable.
2.. I have tried to look for some, on CustomerSource/PartnerSource and =
everytime I go there I end up seeing hundreds of docs. but no output. It =
is not easy to find what is needed and almost every link points to =
another link and so on.
Any help would highly be appreciated

You can't simply restore a GPv9 Database over a GPv10 database and =
expect it to work - or to auto-upgrade.
You must first ugrade to 10 then restore it=20
or restore the Dynamics and Company databases to a test server/new =
instance of GP and upgrade it there.

Dear Mr. Salim,
I understand that quite well but it is also not that simple what you are =
telling. I am using both versions and I have restored the data from 9 to =
10 but there are million steps involved in it and I was wondering if =
there are fewer, concise and easy to follow steps which evantually will =
help the rest of Group.

Since there are renowned gurus here in this Group always helping the =
needy, I wish if there is 10-12 steps plan to perform the upgradation =
and migration and the intention was also to draw Microsoft's team =
attention to think about it.
Regards,

ZeeAay
The only way that I am aware you can go from 9-10 (or any other release =
for that matter) is:
1. Backup 9
2. Download if necessary any service packs for upgrading version (ie, =
download the 10 with feature pack pre installed)
3. Install 10, you can decide the same directory, or another directory, =
your choice
4. Run Utiltiies to update Dynamics database and companies
5. Update modified reports/forms
6. Launch GP and verify=20

That is a "nutshell" Hsalim was correct, you CANNOT install 10, and drop =
9 databases into it which is what he was referring to.
Hope this helps
Mike

The only way that I am aware you can go from 9-10 (or any other =
release for that matter) is:
  1. Backup 9
  2. Download if necessary any service packs for upgrading version (ie, =
download the 10 with feature pack pre installed)
  3. Install 10, you can decide the same directory, or another =
directory, your choice
  4. Run Utiltiies to update Dynamics database and companies
  5. Update modified reports/forms
  6. Launch GP and verify=20

That is a "nutshell" Hsalim was correct, you CANNOT install 10, and =
drop 9 databases into it which is what he was referring to.
  Hope this helps

The link below provides all the current upgrade information for GP 10:

https://mbs.microsoft.com/Cms/Templates/document/General.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID={D78B66C0-FFC5-45AA-8F8D-ECE321772CA9}&NRORIGINALURL=/customersource/support/documentation/InstallationAndSetupGuides/gp10_upgrade&NRCACHEHINT=Guest&wa=wsignin1.0

The DYNAMICS database and the databases referenced by it need to be restored
in the GP 10 environment. The reason is that the db_upgrade table contains
the version information for all databases. Additionally, there can be
differences between the products referenced in the GP 9 version of the table
and the GP 10 version of the table. For example, EFT for Payables is part of
product 0 in GP 10 but has its own product id in version 9.

You mentioned the other people were wrong in their responses. Can you say
why?

restoring GP 10.0 32-bit into GP 10.0 64-bit
Hello: We are going to install GP 8.0 on a 32-bit server in-house and restore a client's 8.0 data into these SQL databases. Pretty cut and dry. Next, we will upgrade this in-house server from 8.0 to 10.0. Continuing, we will install GP 10.0 on the client's new 64-bit server. Finally, we will restore the upgraded 10.0 databases from our in-house 32-bit server to the client's 64-bit server. Here's the question. Is there anything "wrong", from a technical standpoint, in restoring SQL databases from a 32-bit environment into a 64-bit environment? Thanks! chil...
