deleting the dynamics.dic file on the server

Hello:

Someone at a client of ours went in and somehow managed to accidentally
delete the dynamics.dic file from the server’s GP code folder. Now, GP will
of course not run on the server.

The client tried to alleviate this issue by copying the dynamics.dic file
and dex.ini file from a working workstation. That did not work. They still
get errors on the server whenever someone tries to launch GP from the server
(Visual Basic initialization failure, ".tlb files are missing", outdated
versions of OLE system files are present, etc.)

The client does not have a backup of this code folder, and the dynamics.dic
file does not reside on the GP 9.0 CDs. (So, it cannot be copied over from
there.)

Does the GP application have to be reinstalled on the server, or is there
something that can be done short of that? Would reloading SP2 fix this?

Thanks!

If you put in a new dex.ini, the data source name may be different
from the client to the server. Check that out.

You shouldn't need to copy over the dex.ini, just the dynamics.dic
If you have SBS 2003 you could try to use the Previous Versions
functionality.

Don't they have a backup or backups of the server from before the
Dynamics.Dic was deleted? Just restore the files from a backup that has
them.

Hello Again:

I did not mean to say that he copied the dex.ini file into the server
folder--just the dynamics.dic file.

And, again. there was no backup present for this server code folder. The
server is a Windows Server 2003.

Hi

Check whether any VBA files or other files deleted from server folder other
than Dynamics.dic file?
Try installing one more instance of 9.0 and sp2 and copy the required
files(*.cnk files) instead of coping files from other workstation.

Starting with release 9.0, the installation supports repair.

Re-delete the copied in Dynamics.dic file, then try repairing the
installation.

From control panel, choose Add or Remove Programs. Select Microsoft
Dynamics GP 9.0 in the list (be sure to select the correct instance if
multiple instances exist). Push the Change button then click and follow the
installation screens for 'Repair'.

This will put the Dynamics.dic file back [as well as any other missing
files], refresh your application dictionaries, put back all installed chunk
files, repair any dex.ini settings, registry keys, etc..., etc...

Change outbound server in header to fix 550 Can't verify your host name error
The headers on the outbound emails show the internal DNS name of our exchange server; obviously this won't resolve properly at the destination. How/where in Exchange 5.5 can I force the IMC to use a real fqdn on outbound mail? Thanks! Frinky You can do this in TCP/IP properties\Advanced\DNS tab of machine. Deleted exchange 5.5 site not replicating over the ADC to Exchange 2000 side
We are a part of a shared Exchange 5.5 organization but our site is primarily Exchange 2000/2k3. We maintain a single 5.5 server as the rest of the Org is 5.5. The problem we are seeing is when the folks who control the Organization at the top level remove a site that is no longer used, that deletion is not carrying over the CONFIG_CA agreement to the Exchange 2000/AD side. Our Exchange 5.5 server executes the deletion with no issue. Any ideas on why this deletion is not replicating properly over the ADC and throught the SRS database? In the past we have manually removed the sites/recipie...
