What happens to incoming e-mails during a "swing" transfer?

I am planning (or trying to justify) moving our Exchange 5.5 setup to new
hardware (running W2K Server). One thing that I don't understand completely
is what happens to the incoming e-mail. Am I correct in assuming that mail
intended for a user will automatically be delivered to the new server after
I move the mailbox? I'm only part time and the setup and migration may take
a couple of weeks....

TIA.

In a swing, you have 2 live servers in the organisation. Assuming it is done
correctly, new emails will be delivered to the mailbox in whichever server
it resides.

OWA access for Exchange 5.5 users during swing migration
We currently have a W2k3 AD domain & Exchange Server 5.5 running on NT 4.0 member server w/ OWA. We are planning to do a swing migration by adding a new Exchange 2003 server to the existing site. We also have 6 other exchange 5.5 servers and will be doing a gradual migration to 2K3. We are trying to implement a FE+BE scenario. Here are the questions that I have: 1) During the migration, how will the exchange 5.5 users access their email through OWA? Will they be able to use Exchange 2003 OWA? 2) Do I have to keep both the versions of OWA running till I migrate all my users to Exchan...

Access 2007: Memo Datatype/Java Swing
We are developing a desktop application using Java technologies. Using the application, user inputs data within a Text Pane [Java Swing], and the data is updated into the database [Microsoft Access]. With the launce of Microsoft Access 2007, we prompts to use datatype Memo for the Text Pane field, since it support, firstly Rich Text Formating and secondly, the character limit has been increased to 2GB. On using the datatype Memo, we are not able to retrieve data from the database [Microsoft Access 2007]. However, our application was working perfectly fine when we had applied datatype S...

Free/busy info not updating after swing migration
We are in the process of doing a swing migration from Exch 2000 to 2003. We are in a testing phase currently. We have two separate administrative groups, one for the Exch 2000 servers, the other for 2003. We are having some odd issues where mailboxes moved to 2003 aren't updating their free/busy information regularly. I've configured replicas for all 2000 and 2003 servers for the two different "legacyExchangeDN"s listed (one for each admin group) within the SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY system public folder, and have waited a number of hours for replication to take place. I ...

Can't uninstall swing server
Hi all! I recently did a swing upgrade of my exchange server. I got everything moved back to the box it will stay on. I let it and the one I used for the swing run after everything was transfered for about a week, then shut off the swing server. I let the new permanant one run for another week to make sure I didn't miss anything. Now I am trying to uninstall exchange from the swing server to finish cleaning up. It won't let me. Says there are still users using the mailbox store and I have to move them or "mail disable them" before it will let me. But there aren't any...

Swing upgrade from Exchange 5.5 to 2003
Hello, I recently did a "Swing" upgrade from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. The upgrade itself went with out a problem. I am ready to remove the exchange 5.5 box and retire it but how can I verify that all the data off of it has been transferred to the new server. I have moved all the mailboxes over and ran the pfmigrate tool. But is there a way to verify all the data is on the new server now? H We have upgraded a exchange 5.5 server to Exchange 2000 with a swing method Everything went ok but it seems that the active directory and the exchange organisation still have traces of the swing server because we are receiving warnings the event viewer application (ID:9318) about the swing server In the Exchange manager under the servers we still see the swing server there but it is greyd out and we are unable to delete it from there My question is how can i clean up my active directory and my exchange organisation of that server Thank you Did you remove Exchange from the old server by...

Upgrade Swing Mode SSL Question
Hello everybody I want to upgrade my E2k3 server which is running W2kS to the W2k3S. I set up a new E2k3S to act as a swing server, but I have a SSL associated to the alias webmail.mydomian.pt When I move a mailbox to the swing server I not able to connect to OWA because the address changes to swinghostname.mydomain.pt. How can I move mailboxes without disabling SSL certificate? Thank you all very much, Filipa Gaudêncio This is not really going to be possible unless you have a frontend server as the DNS entry for webmail.mydomain.pt is going to be pointing to a single IP address...

SBS2003 R2 to SBS 2003
Hi all, I'm about to embark on some SBS2003 R2 to SBS2008 upgrades. I previously purchased Jeff's excellent Swing Migration toolkit, and used it for both SBS2000 to SBS2003 and SBS2003 to SBS2003 (new tin) migrations. I see that there's a Microsoft document on migrating SBS2003 to SBS2008 (http://tinyurl.com/64lja3). It's migrating to new hardware (necessary anyway, x86 to x64) and assigning a new server name. Can anyone give me their war stories on SBS2003 R2 to SBS2008 migrations? Jeff's kit was excellent, but I'm an independent engineer so have to pay...

Swing Chart with dynamic Range
I would like to create a swing chart (stock chart) with a dynamic range that grows as more data is added. Any ideas? Thank You Joe Hi, For information on the dynamic ranges have a read of Jon Peltier's page http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/Dynamics.html Depending on which stock chart you want you will need 3 to 5 named ranges. I may have to migrate a SBS2K3 to SBS2K8 soon. I would like to create new accounts on new server rather than move the old AD to it. Is it feasible to migrate all 45 mailboxes thru PST files? Exchange 2003 Backup/Restore or Swing?
I'm just starting to plan reformatting/reinstalling Exchange 2003 on my current Exchange 2003 server. I'm going to be upgrading it from Win2003 SP1 to Win2003 R2 at the same time. I have 3 drives in a RAID5 structure, but the partitions are poorly designed (C, E, F, W), I'm running out of space on them for offline defragmentation. Instead of having 4 separate partitions (for OS, Exchange DB, Exchange Logs, and another one for web content), I want to consolidate it down to a single C partition. In one of the Microsoft Exchange Disaster Recovery webcasts, they mention that...
