Unread public folder patch (KB836686)

I had previously installed the update mentioned here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836686 to resolve the bogus unread count
for public folders in E2k3. It worked great - then I installed SP1 for E2k3
and the problem resurfaced.
I checked the KB article and noted that the "Applies to" section now notes
SP1 so I called them up and got the update again. When I try to apply it
though it tells me that it's not valid for the service pack I'm running and
exits itself. Has anyone managed to get this patch to install on E2k3 SP1?
Any idea why Microsoft didn't include this update in SP1 in the first place?
:)

Thanks!

You might simply need to run Isinteg against your public folder store. I've
experienced that before where there are simply inconsistencies within the
database causing the improper unread count. Also, check and see if the
Public folder has replicas on multiple servers. I think I've also
experienced this here where my mailbox was moved to a new server that
contained a replica, but the PF was homed on a different server.

We had exactly the same problem post SP1. After applying Hotfix 889680 the
problem was fixed.

The date of the files in the hotfix is 10-December-2004 , store.exe is
version
6.5.7232.60

Obviously, the earlier hotfix is based on a pre-SP1 version of store.exe and
SP1 didn't include the code from the hotfix.

An unanticipated, albeit appreciated fix in hotfix 889680.

OL2K can't kill Personal Folders...?
Howdy, I can't seem to remove a set of Personal Folders from the folder tree in OL2K SP3. Here's the situation: I travel with a notebook. I run OL on it. After a few days, I copied its (new, and thus very small) PST file to my desktop system. I added the new PST in Tools | Services so that at that point I had two sets of Personal Folders displayed in the tree. I then copied messages from the small PST to the larger PST that my desktop ordinarily uses. When that was done, I went back into Tools | Services to remove the PST that I no longer needed. With that completed, I was surpri...
