SMTP (Outgoing Mail) Issue

Hello,

I have a single Exchange 2003 SP2 server that is causing Internet bandwidth
issues.

I have a packet sniffing program between the Internet and our LAN and it see
all outgoing SMTP traffic. This is what is strange. There are multiple SMTP
connections open from the Exchange server to multiple SMTP servers on the
Internet and the connections are transporting large amounts of data BUT those
connections are not showing up in the Queue window.

If I stop the SMTP Virtual Service, the connections stop as seen in the
packet sniffer. But, as long as the SMTP service is running, these
connections are being made and are sending lots of MB's of data. Again, these
"connections" are not in the Queue window to see what is trying to deliver.

This is causing our T1 upload bandwidth to spike.

Any ideas? Or is there a way to view real-time SMTP connections from the
Exchange server (i.e. the sender and recipient)?

Thanks,

No, only the incoming sessions appear in the "current sessions" window.

Storing CC-ed e-mails only once
A huge part of our e-mail traffic is CC-ed to multiple people in the same office either directly or through various overlapping mailing lists. It appears, that each CC-ed message is stored separately in each user's mailbox, however. Many messages have sizeable attachements, etc. and our storage requirements grow at an alarming rate each month -- sending a 3Mb e-mail to 30 people in the same office requires 90Mb of storage initially, and 30Mb after 20 people delete the message from their mailboxes...
