reply those log files after the lastest full backup

Dear all,

I'm practicing the DR procedure of Exchange 2k3.

I can restore Exchange 2k3 to the state of latest full backup.
If the full backup did on midnight 5:00am then the server crash on 11:00am
same day. There are a lot of mail between 5:00am to 11:00am and not updated
to Information Store.

How can I replay those log files and make the Information Store most update?

Thanks!

Patrick

The logs will play when you mount the store, if the restore was successful,
and you chose "last restore set" as a restore option.

If you did not, here is how to force a hard recovery.
eseutil /cc /t

The /t switch defines the storage group in which log file replay continues
after logs in the temporary folder have been replayed. --

Michael,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm testing to replay those log files generated after backup. I found the
following log files in the MDFDATA directory:

1. E00.log
2. E0000002.LOG
3. E0000003.LOG
4. res1.log
5. res2.log

Which files exactly that I need to put back to MDBDATA directory to let it
to do the replay process?

I've tested the following cases that also can replay those log fiels:
- put 1 to 5 back to that directory.
- put 1 to 3 back to that directory.
- put 2 and 3 to that directory.

Please advice.

Thanks a lot

Patrick

Don't move any log files. An online restore automatically handles this.
The log files are part of the backup, and are put in a temp folder, and a
restore.env file is generated which contains information about the recovery
steps. Remember that a storage groups shares a common set of transaction
logs, so manually overwriting logs, can very well harm other db's which are
members of the SG. Read the Microsoft DR documents for more detailed
information.

Thanks for your info, Michael:

I'm not meaning to touch any log files in the temp folder during restore.

I can successful restore anything from the last backup.
My concern is, after a full backup, all log files will commit to database.
After backup, there are a lot of incoming and outgoing mail then new log
files will be generated that those are not in the last backup. If the server
crash now, I want to replay also those new log files.

I'm testing the case to restore full computer set, restore the information
store and replay those new log files. (assume I can access those new log
files)

I've read the ex2k3 DR gudie, that I need to ensue those new log files are
in the MDBDATA folder, the restore procedure will replay the log files in the
temp folder first then replay new log files in MDBDATA folder if found any.

My question is I found the following log files in the MDBDATA folder (after
server crash):
 1. E00.log
 2. E0000002.LOG
 3. E0000003.LOG
 4. res1.log
 5. res2.log

Which files should I keep in the MDBDATA folder to make the retore process
do the replay process also after replied log files in Temp folder.

Thanks a lot.

Patrick

Backup software usually has a restore option to use existing logs (point of
failure) or to overwrite existing logs, with those backed up (point in time
restore).

DB_Backup.MDB file has appeared beside DB.MDB.
I have a local DB.MDB which accesses a DATA.MDB on a network drive. I use a user-level security file. It has been working AOK for a year or so. Yesterday one of the users reported an error dialog when attempting to open the DB.MDB (unfortunately the wording of the dialog was not captured!) After this 'event', the database started working correctly once again. The result was a DB_Backup.MDB file appeared beside the DB.MDB. Any ideas? That backup file is created when ACCESS "crashes" during use..... -- Ken Snell <MS ACCESS MVP> "Andrew (UGL)&quo...

creating a backup on 2002 for Money 98
I am helping a friend who has 98. I need to make a backup of info on my 2002 for him to use on 98. Any suggestions as to how to do this? M98 can't read any file written by M02 besides .QIF import. M02 can't write any file readable by M98 except for .QIF export. Sounds like QIF export/import is your only choice. I suspect you will find this doesn't do what you want. Outllok 2003 reply with wrong account
Howdy - I have Outlook 2003. For some reason my new pc has started doing the same thing as my previous one. I have 5 email accounts. When a person sends me an email to my default account and I reply, it comes from another account. In theory (and it did until the last couple of days) it should come from the account I received the email in.... I change the smtp settings on the accounts as I travel a lot, but other than that I haven't changed anything that I know of to cause this - anyone had the same problem, or better yet - know how to fixt it???!!! Thanks in advance Ron ...

Eg. c:\documents\folderA\picture1.eps c:\documents\folderB\document.doc I would like to sort them by the ".eps" extension. I have tried using the Data,Sort menu and something like *?*.eps as the criteria. But am obvisouly missing something. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks Karl You could use a helper column to extract just the extension then include this in your sort range and sort on the helper col...

Recommendations Please: Software That Can Backup Outlook While It is Open/Running
As the subject says. There are lots of packages that will backup the pst, etc. once Outloook is closed, but some products claim to do it while Outlook is open. Any suggestions on products that actually do this and do it properly? If the product can safely backup over the network to a server and can do incremental/update backups throughout the day, I'd really like to hear about it. Thanks. ...
