Remote Server questions

I want to create a "primary" Exchange server in our datacenter which
is not directly connected to our office network. I then would like to
set up a "secondary" server in our office that will either pull the
emails or get them pushed from the main server.

Is this possible? If so, can someone point me in the direction of
some information on how to accomplish this?

Thank you,

CJ

Probably not, based on your description of your connectivity.
You can certainly forward emails to a replacement server but you need
AD at the remote location so Exchange isn't actually your problem.

How do you anticipate doing AD replication?
Who is in charge of this overall project and what do they say about
connectivity between locations?

I am in charge of the overall project. I forgot about the AD
requirement. I can setup a VPN for AD replication without any
problems and make the remote server simply a member of the AD.

You're in an odd situation in that you want some kind of email
resilience but seem not to have the intention to get the network up to
snuff. http://www.messageone.com/email-continuity/ would be a good
idea for you I think.

Exchange Server 2007 and Domain Controllers
Hello, Could someone please tell me if I have to install Exchange Server 2007 on a AD Domain Controller, or can it be installed on a member server? I have a Windows 2008 Server that is a member server in a Windows 2003 Active Directory network that I'm looking to install Exchange 2007 on. Also, could someone tell me if there are any articles out there that will help me install my Exchange 2007 in the same domain as an existing Exchange 2003 Server (running on Windows 2000 Server)? I'm looking to install the new Exchange 2007 as a new server (new name) and migrate th...

Detailed Sales Report Question
For some reason, on our detailed sales report, the cost and profit are not accurate. I think I've narrowed the problem down to returns because every time we have one, the report shows a negative on Qty sold and total sales, but it still shows the same cost and profit as a sale for that item. As an example, I had a customer buy a charbroiler and return it later that day to buy a bigger one. The Detailed Sales Report shows the first transaction with this information... Qty Sold: 1 Sold Price: 995.00 Total Sales: 995.00 Cost: 694.35 Profit: 300.65 Then, the return shows up with this....

Input from remote 10-key and laptop numbers very slow
The last few days I've experience a delay when inputting numbers into Excel 2000 worksheets. When I type in the numbers, they slowly enter themselves, one at a time pausing between each number. This is occurring both with the remote 10-key for the laptop and the number keys on the laptop. This is occuring in all files, no matter how big or small. I wouldn't say I have any overly complicated workbooks, mostly basic functions. I have had much bigger and more complicated before without a problem. When using the 10-key or the number keys anywhere else, Word, internet, e...

XMLSerializer and SQL Server
Hello, I'm trying to use the FOR XML EXPLICIT clause with SQL Server to deserialize data from my database into a strongly-typed collection object that I will use throughout my application. I initially tested my design by building a collection in code and then serializing it to/from an XML file, which worked fine. However, I have hit a brick wall trying to restore the data from SQL Server. I originally had my collection and object classes just marked as [Serializable()] without any of the XML Serialization attributes; however, replacing the "standard" serialization a...

I have 2 application questions 1) I want to be able to use a letter template and create a letter to a crm contact. The only thing I find in CRM is to create a letter activity. Act has the ability to create a letter (it populates the client info into the letter) within the app and it records it as a history item. How can I do this in CRM? 2) Is there a way to group contacts / accounts. Again Act has the ability to put contacts and/or accounts in a group and then assisgn tasks for the group. Can I do this with CRM? Hello! 1) You can do that only out of the Outlook SFO(not WebCl...

[Visual C++] Question on LNK 2001 Errors while Building EXE
Hello? I'm June from S.Korea. I'm sorry if I am at a wrong place for my question. I'm practicing echo client code. Below is what I copied from a textbook. The problem is, there're 0 error, 0 warning at compiling. But There're 10 errors at Building EXE files. How can I troubleshoot them? I already #included winsock2.h, which has the definition for the functions listed in the 10 error messages. And the help says the linker doesn't find definition for the functions listed. Thanks for reading and still I'm not sure if I'm at a right place to ask. But hope you will h...

Questions???
I have 2 questions that I would like to see if they can be answered. I have a worksheet that begins with an item #. An example of an item number is 432-0980,432-1105. How do I use Outlook 2003 with the Win2003 built-in POP3 server?
I am running a small network using Win2003 R2 servers and XP Pro workstations. I do not have Exchange and use the built-in POP3 server for email. I am using Outlook 2007 on the workstations to retrieve mail, but my users need to roam. All my users' data is redirected to an NFS share on my servers and I have relocated their pst files to their home folders. This seems to work OK, except for one user. In this case, when she opens Outlook, she gets the initial setup condition and we need to re-enter all her data again. The pst file seems to be intact and her mail is not lost. I h...

Allowing PS Remoting into my custom desktop PowerShell hosting app
We want to host the PowerShell runtime in our desktop windows application to give our customers an option to write product extensions and customizations in PowerShell script. WPK seems to make practical the notion of writing even the GUI portions of a desktop product extension in script and that is fantastic. We could create some custom PS providers and cmdlets that exposed key application data and functionality to the script writer. Though the idea of writing extensions to a desktop application in the form of PowerShell script seems compelling, it will only succeed if the cus...

SBS 2008 and WSUS 3.0 question
Hi, In my SBS console under Updates I can see all the Updates that are waiting to be deployed (or not). Underneath that I can see Updates In Progress where there are around 25 updates with a yellow exclamation mark on which are reporting In Progress. They have been like this for over a week. When i look at the deployment report for these items I can see a pattern. On one item for example, the update has "installed" on the machines in the office, "Not Applicable" on the servers and "not installed" on some of the laptops which aren't connected ...

2003 -> 2007 post migration question
Exchange 2007 was added to an existing exchange 2003 cluster last month. I was able to move all user mailboxes and public folders from 2003 to 2007 environment. I also configured send/receive connectors in 2007 to handle all incoming and outgoing mail. I was able to delete all public folders on the 2003 side and remove the store, however I could not delete 3 system mailboxes (SystemMailbox{GUID},System Attendant Mailbox, SMTP <Servername--{GUID}> Mailbox) on the 2003 side hence could not remove the private store. I didn't not remove the Routing Group connector that was...

sychronizing data between two servers
Hello: We just moved GP and its SQL data from one server to another. The old server will be used as a backup server, should the new server ever go offline. In the event that the new server does go offline, IT will take backups of the SQL databases and restore into the old server. The head of IT is wondering if there is some sort of automated means of synchronizing the data between the two servers. Ideally, he'd like to press a button on Friday or Saturday and have the new GP transactions and changes transferred to the old server. Is there a such way of accomplishing this? chil...

E2K3: Outgoing mail question
Hi, I am running E2K3 and using MailMarshal NetIQ for anti-spam. Currently, all incoming mail comes in through the MM servers, but all outgoing mail is still going out through exchange. I'm looking to test a text script in NetIQ that stamps confidentiality notices on outgoing mail, but I don't yet want to implement it on all outgoing domains. Wondering if that's possible. If I specify the MM server as a smarthost for the SMTP connector, it would affect *all* domains. What I would like to do is have just *one* of the least used, low traffic domains use on of the netIQ servers...
