Relay

I am getting thousands of what looks like smtp relay
messages in my IMS outbound queue. This is exchange 5.5sp4
with "require authentication" to relay checked in the IMS
setup. Would anyone have any tools or procedures to find
the source of this? Thanks

Relaying by Host Name
I want to allow access for a server to relay via my exchange server. I want to allow him access via hsi host name instead of IP. Any ideas how can I do this? Thank you in advance. I have never tried it, but it seems like you should be able to use the domain option, just put in hostname.domain.com. The only down side is that your server will have to do a nslookup on every relay attempt. "WILDPACKET" wrote: > I want to allow access for a server to relay via my exchange server. use fixed relay?
hi i'm guess i'm just missing something obvious, but how/where can i configure Exchange 2003 to use a single fixed SMTP relay server (with SMTP AUTH) to relay all outgoing messages to? i'm running the exchange on a network with a dynamic ip, and just lately it seems that every second recipient has black-listed our dial-in provider's (it's only the largest provider here in germany ;-) ip range. so i'd like to run all mails thru a relay i have on one of our servers on "proper" IP addresses, to avoid this issue. any pointers? thanx! -- marc hoffman RemObject...

Problem With possible open relay on SBS2000 w/E2k
Hello, I have run into a strange problem on one of my clients servers. They have a Windows Small Business Server 2000 with Exchange running. When the server is on the network the whole network's access to the internet is almost NULL. It runs slower than 56k. When I disconnect the server from the network it runs like lightning. I noticed that when I shutdown the exchange services everything works great but as soon as I start them the problem begins again. More specifically I shut down the services one by one and noticed the problem stopped after I stopped the SMTP service and Information ...

Relaying mail not allowed
I am not sure if this question should be posted here, so forgive me if this is not the right place. I keep getting a message back every time I send out e- mails from my account. (This just started. Everything had been working fine for a long time.) The message says - FROM: System Administrator - The following recipient(s) could not be reached: NAME OF E-MAILED PERSON | DATE | TIME 550 relaying mail to NAME OF E-MAILED PERSON is not allowed. I am puzzled. If anyone can help, I would surely appreciate it. Mary Contact your ISP - you probably need to authenticate to their SMTP s...

Exchange 2000 and Relaying
Well I have a fairly new Exchange 2000(1 month) install. All of a sudden in ths last week I have noticed my disk space getting smaller. After further investigation my Bad mail folder and the Queue folder are both filling with messages. If I look at some of the messages in the bad and que they are the famous spams(Viagra and all them nice emails). They are coming in from my SMTP Virtual Server. I looked in the properties and have no computers allowed to relay. The check box is checked that allows computers to relay who successfully authenticate. I have all 3 boxes checked in the authenti...

Check queue on mail relay server?
Hi! I have a separate server to relay my e-mails to the outside world. The problem is that I can't see the queue on that server like you can if you have Exchange installed on it. Enviroment: Mailserver: Win2k Server with Exchange 2000 Relay: Win2k server with SMTP relay Reg Jrgen Persson Look for the Queue folder that is under the webroot I believe. there is no graphic user interface that you can view this with. You must view the folder where it is stored. this will show the e-mail in queue. if look around you can also find a bad mail folder that you might want to look at ...

Server is Open Relay despite default reccomended configuration...
Hi all, Today I was surprised by the news that our server is listed in open relays lists. I have checked the configuration and all is configured as stated in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;324958#3, but the server continues to be open to relay. The test applied was the same is reccomended on the above article. The only way to avoid open relaying is by unchecking the checkbox "Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above". But this checkbox microsoft reccommends to stay checked. What can be wrong? What can be...

Incoming Email Problems (550 5.7.1. relaying denied)
Good morning, I'm having problems with incoming email to my network. Mail coming to my exchange 2003 server seems to get stopped somewhere, but I'm having trouble tracking it down. I discovered the problem when users on my network were being removed from mailing lists due to undeliverables. I recently found out that they are later getting notifications of this saying "550 5.7.1. <user@ourdomain.edu>...Relaying Denied." Its not ALL incoming email thats getting stopped, but mostly newsletters, etc. I've also noticed I'm not getting my online bank statements ...

"550 5.7.1 Unable to relay" TO external domains
Hi together, I have a big problem to send to any recipient which has an external domain (outside of Exhange organization). I deployed Exchange 2003 + SP2 based on Windows 2003 AD. - Installation of Exchnage is a default installation. - Default recipient policy exists. - There is no restriction to send mails. - Only SMTP VS1 is used to send mails. The users on Exchange server cann send mails internally without any problem. BUT if they send any mail to an user who has an external domain address, they get the following error: "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for username@externaldomain.com&q...

Strange relay issue
Hi, We got a exchange 2003 sp1 set up on our server, last year i added a new email domain to it( next to the 2 domains we already hosted ) , and people are able to contact us from the outside on that domain by using that domain emailaddres.. Now we have an issue with using those same adresses internally. We got some new printers that have a scan-email function and it uses the ldap adress list. In those list email adress is name@domain.com ( from the newly added domain ) , but it gets an error, but to be able to see it i configured my laptop to the same ip and set up an smtp session m...

Unable to relay #2
I added a new domain to the recipient policy and everything works fine if I send mail to it from the server itself but when I try to sent from an external e-mail address it comes back with the "unable to relay for newdomain.com" message. Why would that be? The server is running Exchange 2000 with all the latest sp's and updates. The mailbox that I'm sending to lives on another server running Exchange 2003 (+latest updates) that's in the same routing group. Port 25 on the 2K3 system is not open to the outside world so all mail for mailboxes living on the 2K and ...

Unable to relay
I have two exchange boxes in my organization. I recently changed the outside ip on one and changed my mx record for this. I can recieve/send on the one that didnt change fine. On the one that changed, i can recieve but not send. When i telnet to port 25 from the outside, i get 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for error. It all was working fine before the switchover. All the boxes for allow all computers that successfully authenticate to relay are checked on both servers. There is no other factors. Could this be the new isp providers error. Sounds more like an internal issue since my mail is n...

Mail Relay Question
I have ek55 and ek23 co-existing until I am ready to remove the 5.5 server. I have the 5.5 server relaying to another server which handles spam filtering. I created an smtp connector on the ek23 server a few weeks back which has the same cost has the 5.5 connector. My question is I want the ek23 server to relay to this same server. When I configured it on the connector and tried to send mail, I got a bounce-back telling me stating that the server was unable to relay for the intended recipient (my personal account). How do I configure mail relay to this other server to work properl...

Unable to relay through SMTP connector
Running Exchange 2003 SP2. I've created an SMTP connecter, specified two Exchange 2003 SP2 servers as bridgehead servers and configured the address space as *. I've restared the SMTP and routing service on both servers. When I telnet to either of the specified bridgehead servers and try and send mail from mycompany.com to gmail.com I get "Unable to relay for.." I've got a recipient policy configured for mycompany.com as well. Why are these servers seeing mail from mycompany.com to the outside world as an attempt to relay? because it is relaying. :-) Anonymou...

Sending Mail Relay Problems
Hello - I need to travel a lot and have problem with sending email when I change ISP's. I always get the "550" error - not a gateway. Can anyone rercommend a good local SMTP server that I can install on my laptop to solve this problem? Thanks YOu just need to change your settings on the properties of your mail account to match the ISP you are using while travelling. Usually, just setting up authentication to the outgoing server is sufficient. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact.
