Problem after e-mail server re-start

Hi, I have the prblem for OWA users to access the Exchange server every times
re-started the server, and Outlook users using IMAP connection also
experience delays or hangs.

The following is found in the event log

Source: W3SVC
Event ID: 101
The server was unable to add the virtual root '/Exchange' for the directory
'M:\speedsourcing.com\MBX' due to the following error: The system cannot find
the path specified. The data is the error code.

From the Internet Services Manager, paths for Exchange, ExchWeb & Exadmin
are all unavailable. The first two can be manually re-assigned back to their
default, but the last one can't be fixed in the same manner.

Every time this happens, it takes at least more than half an hour for the
sever to resume normal operation. I tried to look for solution in MS website
but found nothing useful. Something close to the situation was that like the
WWW service started earlier than the Exchange service, and that all.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

The below error is typically a benign error that can be ignored. It stems
from the WWW service finishing starting before the Information Store service
has started. The M drive is only available after the IS has started. If
you restart the Default Web Site that contains the OWA vdirs, the errors
will go away, but as I said, they can be ignored. I suspect your problem
has nothing to do with that error. Do you see Stop errors on the Exchange
vdirs when you look in IIS admin?

I tried to restart the default web site, but that didn't help. The icons for
Exchange, ExchWeb & Exadmin were still red in colour, guess its what you
meant by Stop Errors?

Something for reference, don't know its related to the poblem or not, an
error shows up regularly in frequent intervals, in the Application log, Event
ID: 4325, Source: MSExchangerPCMTA,
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 4325 ) in Source ( MSExchangePCMTA ) cannot
be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information
or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be
able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and
Support for details. The following information is part of the event: The
event log file is corrupt.

Again, nothing useful can be found in the MS website.

Thanks.

Does your M drive show up?

Have you thought about potentially trying to reinstall Exchange? If there
is something Exchange-related in OWA that is messed up, reinstalling
Exchange should fix it.

Absolute worst case is that you remove IIS, then reinstall IIS, then
reinstall Exchange. I've had to do that on one or two occassions to fix a
buggy IIS issue. If you go down this route (or simply reinstalling
Exchange), make sure that you reinstall any service packs afterwards.

you'll want to run isinteg with the -test -alltests switches and specify the
public store. Make sure that the public store is dismounted first. As a
sample:

Run this from the \program files\exchsrvr\bin directory on your Exchange
server.

isinteg -s YOURSERVERNAME -fix -test alltests

It will list the stores that are available and will indicate that only
stores marked as offline can be checked. Choose the PF store and let it
run. Once it has finished (it can take a while if you have a large public
folder store), check through all the outputs and look to see if there are
any errors, warnings and fixes. If there are counts on any of those for any
tests, re-run it (max of about 3 times) until you have zero counts for all
tests. As a side note, running it more than 3 times probably won't fix any
additional problems - that is why I referenced max of 3 times.

The M drive does show up.
But I guess my boss would kill me if I re-install Exchange. Anyway, I don't
re-start the server frequently, so this is not a very serious problem.

I'll try to run the tests and see what can I find out.

Thank you for your help, Ben.
