Mailbox permissions.

Hi,

We run Exchange 2003 on a W2k3 Server in a W2k AD Domain. Single Site for
both Domain and Exchange (i.e. AG). Both are in Native mode.

Client used is outlook 2003. I have amended permissions on every users
mailbox within outlook to allow out Managing Director to access everyones
inbox as a reviewer. The same applies to every sent items. Every users also
has editor access to everyone elses calendar.

Problem is that the MD is now kicking off that she doesn't want users to
have the ability to remove her from the permissions list for their inbox. I
can't see how I can stop them doing this (i.e amending the permissions
property for their inbox/sent items/calendar etc) within Outlook. Since its
their mailbox they have rights to apply permissions to whoever they like.

Is there another way to achieve this? I'm wondering about setting security
on each users AD accounton the Security tab for each user. However, all the
testing I have done so far stops me accessing an inbox if I remove the
permission to do so within Outlook, regardless of the permissions I set
within the users Property dialog box Security tab.

Can anyone advise me on a way to do this? If there is no way to set this,
I'll have to tell the MD its a no go, but I need to exhaust all avenues
before doing this

Many Thanks in advance

John

It's a bit of a blunderbuss approach but you'd want to
use ADU&C to add the MD to the permissions of the users
mailboxes (Exchange Advanced > Mailbox Rights)
That gives her access over the mailbox rather than just
the individual folders.
Of course, the second the users figure out that they can
create PST files and get their mail delivered there
rather than the mailbox, the MD is going to back to
square one and looking at empty mailboxes.

Couldn't you go above that and add MD at the store level
and then it would be an Inherited permission and couldn't
be removed by the user.

NTbackup and mailboxes on 5.5
Hello, Trying to backup our mail system with the windows native ntbackup. I was able to select the exchange store and directory... did not see any object for mailboxes. Any help or advise here is greatly welcome. TIA, Gary Gary, When backing up the information store you are backing up all mailboxes. Unless you are using a third party backup solution you cannot select individual mailboxes. This is one very big disadvantage the native ntbackup has. In order to restore 1 mailbox the entire store needs to be restored. Its probably not the answer you hoped to hear, sorry. Darrin "Gary&q...

Administrators Mailbox Exchange 5.5
My antivirus software (Trend Scanmail for Exchange) is showing an alarming amount of entries (one every 30 seconds or so) of the type " Message from Administrator found at Administrator" followed by "File ATT*****.txt has no viruses" where ***** is a five digit number. Can anyone shed light on what these txt files are. I have an ISDN dialup account with my ISP, it seems that a connection is made much more frequently and remains connected for longer than I expect. Could these 2 issues be related. As you can probably tell I am not an IT specialist but manage our small network...

How do I move mailboxes from an Exchange 2000 Server to an Exchange 2003 Server in another Site? Managing specific folders in all users mailboxes #2
Thanks Richard, I have followed those instructions and have set up a Recipient Policy that takes care of just the one particular folder (Spam). To test it I am using my personal mailbox here at work and am asking it to delete any mail that is over 1 day old and more than 1KB. I picked my name out of the Exchange Recipients, directed the policy to the specific mail store and told it to find a specific alias (me). I moved some old sent emails into the folder that were at least 30 days old. I also setup a rule that says to run the policy every morning between 3 - 5 AM. I ran it manually yester...

Is it safe (and how?) to delete 3 system mailboxes?
System: Exchange 2003 SP1 on Windows 2003 Server. Problem: default Mailbox Store DB has somehow corrupted, and I moved all mailboxes to another Mailbox Store named New. Seems it helped. I moved all boxes except System Attendant SystemMailbox and SMTP (....) They cannot be moved or deleted separately, but it seems that I can delete them if I choose them all together. adjusting mailbox storage limits slow to apply
Hi, I posted about adjusting the default time for mailbox storage limit changes to apply, and was pointed to this article by a couple of nice people here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327378/en-us I wanted to confirm something before I go ahead and do this. Went to add these keys (none of them existed) as per the article, and was a little concerned that the "Reread Logon Quotas Interval" is in seconds yet the "Mailbox Cache Age Limit" is in minutes. Since the article states that changes to "Mailbox Cache Age Limit" timing can affect system performance if ...
