Junk Mail Filtering Issue on an Existing Exchange Server

Hi all,

I have an interesting issue using the IMF features of Exchange 2003 SP2 and
I'm having a tough time tracking down the issue.

I'm in the process of implementing the MS Messaging Security Suite. I have
two clusters, one four node backed by a NetApp SAN in DC and one two node
backed by an HP MSA storage device in Florida. I just implemented the DC
cluster and I inherited the Florida cluster. The clusters are in two
different routing groups, but same administrative group. Only one SMTP
connector is shared.

I've stood up MSS (Antigen AV and Spam) on my SMTP relays and configured it
to identify SPAM and tag it with the Spam Confidence level. I've configured
message filtering at the org level to route messages with and SCL of greater
then 8 into the junk mail folder. I've turned on the Junk Mail filtering on
the OWA client and everything appears to work OK.

The problem I'm seeing is that when I go into OWA and attach to a mailbox on
the Florida Cluster the option to configure Junk Mail filtering is not
available. Additionally, the options that are available on the DC cluster
and the Florida cluster do not synch. For example, the Security and Options
on the Florida cluster are not available either.

I was under the impression that IMF was enabled by default on an SP2
Exchange Server and no further work has to be done. The DC cluster that I
built required no further configuration. Does anyone have any idea why the
option is not showing up in OWA? I'm assuming it's a problem with backend
mailbox server.

Thanks in advance
Dave

I figured it out. My predecessor appears to have used the OWA Admin Tool to
disable that feature. Found it, re-enabled it.

Thanks

1 Server's GAL to another server's address list?
Ok, so I've got an AD domain in the UK office, and a separate one here (both 2000). I have an Exchange server 2003 also at each location. The two locations are connected via IPSEC vpn. I have established 2 one-way trusts, so users from each place can login at the other location. Can I now have the Exchange GAL from UK show up as an address list on my US exchange server and vice-versa? While I'm at it, can I add users from one domain to groups in the other, meaning put my US\user account in my UK\Domain Admins account? Thanks! Inter -org replication will work for this. You c...

Email server rejected login
Hello, I have had Outlook 2007 installed on my laptop (Vista) for months with no issues. 2 weeks ago the program would occasionally give me an error message "your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in account properties...". Now 2 days ago this message pops up all the time and I no longer can send/receive emails. I have tried to repair Outlook, un-installing, and re-installing, nothing seems to work! Max clinet change to Cache mode per server
Hi, we have 2 Exchange 2003 a-p Cluster on Unisys ES7000 with 9000 mailboxes on each cluster. The Clients work with Outlook XP. We plan a Rollout of Outlook 2003 SP2 with activated Cache Mode. Our Offline Adressbook has abaout 10 MB and one Mailbox a average space of 35 MB. Now my question, how much client can rolled out parallel that the download of the mailbox content has only small impact to the Exchange Server performance ? Junk E-Mail Lists Error in Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2003
I have seen several people post about this error message that comes up in Outlook, but so far I haven't seen anyone respond. I am running an Exchange 2003 server with SP1 and my client is Outlook 2003. I installed IMF a few weeks ago, and it appears that this message started soon afterwards. I have now uninstalled IMF, but am still receiving the message. My end users are getting frustrated, as am I. There also appears to be an error in the IMF deployment guide about adding a registry key to increase the list size in Exchange. It states to "right click System", but there is n...

URLScan OWA 2003 Exchange
We are running a front end 2003 OWA server and I have followed the documentation for allowing OWA pages to be server but it does not work. I have even cut and pasted and actual .ini file from Microsoft. The furthest that I have got to the point of login but after that both left and right panes say Page not found. I would appreciate any ideas. Thx. AC I'd check out the urlscan log files to see if there is content being blocked by urlscan. The logs should be in the windir\system32\inetsrv\urlscan\logs. What do they say? Also, can you indicate which documentation you used? Are...

What firewall ports to open to manage server through ESM?
Hi, Got 2 Exchange 2003 servers (in separate RGs) which are connected via WAN and separated by Firewalls. What are the Firewall ports I need to open in order to manage the remote Exchange server, using a local ESM? TIA, Shel Shel: I don't know the answer, but why can't you use Remote Desktop Connection (port 3389) for this? From my experience, it is at least 10x faster than directly using ESM or ADUC and works great even over 56k dial-up to a VPN. DDE Server does not free user objects on dual core CPUs
We have written a dde server in VC++ 6.0 using DDEML (called "server.exe" in the following text). When a dde client disconnects it sometimes happens that (probably due to timing problems?) the amount of user objects of the client as well as of the server.exe increases. As long as the server is running on single core CPU we could create a workaround by setting the thread priority of the server.exe to lowest priority. When we run the server.exe on hyperthreaded or dual core CPUs this workaround refuses to work. If hyperthreading is switched off, everthing works fine. When using ...

Windows Mail recovering messages
I need to reinstall Vista so what is the best way to save/recover existing mail messages/settings? See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx You need to backup the message store and the relevant registry keys. Then, once reinstalled, just replace the location of the message store and merge the registry keys. Then before starting Winmail make sure the "Store Root" value in the registry correctly lists the location of the message store and if so then start Winmail and it should work fine, except you will have to put in your passwords again. steve "Therealdaddydo" ...

Non responsive MTA on Exchange 5.5
Hello, I got the following problem: The MTA on an Exchange 5.5 box is for some reason not responding anylonger to a STOP service (probably due to a corrupted message in the queue). I want to have the least downtime possible and wanna run an MTACHECK asap. Two solutions available: -reboot the server (stopping the MTA doesn't work using the regular ways) -kill the MTA process using the KILL.EXE tool. It seems to me that killing the MTA process would be faster that having to restart the whole server. Moreover users can still access their mailboxes even though the MTA is running amok. ...

default mail format based on domain
Greetings - After 20_ years of Eudora and Thunderbird (in that order), I'm looking at Outlook for the first time (we're moving to an Exchange backend, so...worth a look, for obvious reasons). In Thunderbird, if I want to set a default HTML format for emails sent to a certain domain, I can specify that. For any other domain(s), plain text. Is there an easy way to do that in Outlook (I'm using 2007)?
