Free/Busy problem

This problem is really starting to drive me crazy.. I can't believe no one
has experienced this before? Please help?! Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

(Backend Exchange environment is Exchange 2000, clients are mostly Outlook
97-2002)

When scheduling a meeting from Outlook, users typically click on the
scheduling tab then click Add Others. They add other users from the GAL as
required or optional and conference rooms as resources.

The PROBLEM is that some users and conference rooms (and only SOME of the
time) display the free/busy information as hash marks! In the morning you
may see hash marks (///////) then in the afternoon it may start working and
the free/busy information will be displayed!

I can't seem to pin this down. At first I was convinced it was a server
problem, then I was convinced it was a client problem.. now I don't know
what to think.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for posting here.

Before we go further, I would like to confirm whether the issue happens to
all internal users or specific users in your domain. The following example
may clarify my meaning.

Assume when you compose a meeting request in your Outlook, click the
"Scheduling" tab, and then add User1 as an attendee. You cannot see the
Free/Busy information of User1. Meanwhile, please login another Outlook by
another user account User2, and then verify whether the Free/Busy
information of User1 is still unavailable.

Scenario 1: If the issue only happens to several user accounts like User1,
the issue is much possibly caused by corrupt Free/Busy information in their
mailboxes. We can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

1. Verify the Free/Busy configuration in User1 mailbox.

1). Login Outlook as user1.
2). On the "Tools" menu, click "Options".
3). Click "Calendar Options", and then click "Free/Busy Options". Then
verify the following configurations are correct.

- Publishing interval, which can be as short as one minute.
- Number of months in the future to publish, which can be as long as 36
months.

2. In Outlook Client with User1 mailbox profile.

1). Close Outlook.
2). Click Start menu, click Run.
3). In command line, input Outlook /cleanfreebusy to start Outlook and
clean User1 Free/Busy information and re-publish it.

After that, please verify the issue and let me know the result.

Scenario 2: If the issue happens to all internal user accounts, the issue
may be caused by Public Folder storing Free/Busy information for all users.

Please follow the instruction in the article below to reset System Folder
which stores the Free/Busy information.

275171 XADM: How to Reset System Folders on an Exchange 2000 Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=275171

Hope this helps. Please let me know the results so that I can provide
further assistance on this problem. I am looking forward to your reply.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, not sure why the first reply never appeared.

I have seen both of these solutions in the KB. I did try the /cleanfreebusy
switch on several users desktops today and it did work. I am concerned that
the problem will re-appear.

Is it OK to put this in their login script? Is there anyway to run
/cleanfreebusy and prevent Outlook from opening?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks to take time to respond. This may be due to the problem of our post
handling system which misses or hides my update in Public Internet.
However, I can see it in my side. I am a little confused and report this
tool issue to the appropriate channel. I am sorry for any inconvenience
this takes to you.

According to your description, I am glad the issue disappears after using
the /cleanfreebusy switch. This means the issue is due to the corrupt
Free/Busy information for specific mailbox. Regarding your concern to write
it as login script but not to start Outlook, I am afraid it is not possible
since the /cleanfreebusy switch must take effective when Outlook starts.
Sorry about this. I still suggest you manually perform this method only
when you identify the issue is caused by the corrupt Free/Busy information
for specific mailbox.

Hope this helps. Thanks and have a nice day!

Mike,

Does your free\busy folder exist? If not, try the following articles in
this order. You'll need to reboot the server vice simply restarting the
Exchange services once complete. Have good backups, too.

Lee,
I have a scenario I was hoping you can direct me on the best approach.
Details are:
Exchange Server 2003 Ent
Outlook 2003 Pro
User1 - Has an existing meeting (there are actually more than one that he is
having issues with, but I'll stick to this specific meeting and hopefully it
will answer the rest) that when he goes into his calendar and looks at the
scheduling for that meeting, he sees duplicate attendees for User1 and User2.
The first set shows the correct Free/Busy information but they also have
another User1 and User2 showing No Information Available. The names are
spelled correctly, but are not underlined. It looks like Exchange does not
recognize the names. User 3 who has access to both User 1 and User2 calendars
can go in to the meeting and not see the duplicates with No Information
Available. If you access the same meeting from User2's calendar he sees the
same duplicates problem.
I have tried using /cleanfreebusy several times from both User1 and User2's
accounts. No luck. This is only happening on a few meetings so I don't
believe it is a problem site wide. Is there anything else I should try to
clean up these appoinments? Any reason why User1 and User2 see the duplicates
and no one else? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
   Ivan

Safe Pay Check Amount Problem
I am trying to setup Safe Pay. Everything seems to be working fine except for one annoying quirk. Our bank's Positive Pay data format gives us 12 characters for check amounts ($$$$$$$$$$¢¢). If the check amount is greater than that (say $10,000,000.00), the value that the Safe Pay file shows for that check is 002147483647. And, even if none of the individual checks exceed $9,999,999.99, if the total of the checks in the batch exceeds that a...

CRM Security Problems
Hi Group, I have developed a windows service that hits the CRM database everynight to create some e-mails that need to be sent out to customers in the morning. Frankly I am sick with Microsoft's foisting off problematic software on us -- I only wish there were a real alternative choice! The real problem is that ...
