Exchange Domain issue

Hi,

I have a domain in windows 2003 named "abc.com" which has a AD and DNS
itself inside my company, all the users are logging to this domain, but
my email and wesite is as "xyz.com" which is outside our network. Now we
are planning to install a new server with exhange 2003 inside our
network, can anybody tell what is the best way to install exchange.
I planned to install the exchange as member server of the domain
abc.com as mail.abc.com but when i told my ISP to route the mx record
to my mail server inside the company ,they told that our server
configuration is not correct. ie, our server has to be mail.xyz.com or
name.xyz.com not mail.abc.com but if our exchange has to be
mail.xyz.com what should i do.Or is there any alternative way to set up
a mail server with our existing network configuration or is my ISP
wrong.

Did i confused....?

You can have different namespace /dns domain for AD and a different one for
external web site and smtp mail.
What you'll need to do:
- Make sure there's a Recipient Policy on Exchange server to generate email
addresses for the public/registered domain xyz.com and set it as default
- In the external/public DNS hosted with ISP insert an A record for
mailservername.xyz.com mapping to the public/NATted IP address of your
Exchange server (it's ok if actual hostname of the server is
somethingelse.abc.com)
- Insert MX record pointing to that A record
- On your firewall: open inbound smtp to the Exchange server

Also a good idea to add an MX and A record for that external domain to your
internal DNS servers. If someone from the internal.abc does a simple lookup
for the public.external record, better to not have that DNS forward it out to
the interweb only to come back into the internal network.

Thanks a lot,great info.
But my ISP is not agreeing with me,
Also 1 more thing,How OWA can be accessed from outside as
mailserver.xyz.com/exchange itself right.

- Correct. To access it from outside, you need the A record
(mailserver.xyz.com) - though it can be accessed without any DNS entries
simply by using the external/NATted IP address of the server.
- The other requirement is to have the necessary port(s) open on your
firewall - inbound https (port 443 by default), or http (port 80).
