database offline defragmentation

hey folks

it looks like we need to defrag our database (it's about 26gb)
problem is we only have ~17gb space left on the partition
(can't install any more drives, and the other partition is smaller)

now question here is this : will 16GB be enough for the defrag ?
if not .. any advice ?

aside from killing the one who bought such a small hd..

It is recommended to have free space equal to 1.5 times the size of your
largest database (I use edb + stm file to calculate this). It could work
with less, but there are no guarantees, especially if you have less free
space than the size of your largest database.

If you really need to defrag and you can't add any drives to your server
you'll need to do the defrag on another server (I've heard of folks adding a
USB drive temporarily to do this, but it is likely to be quite slow).

i was thinking about the same thing
i wonder by how much ..

MS says it takes about 5gb and hour to defrag under normal
circumstances.

No.

If you're running enterprise, check to see how much whitespace is in the
database. A better approach is to mount a new store and movemailbox.
Instead of 110% the size of the database, this approach only requires the
size of the resulting database. SIS is preserved in the process, and user
impact is minimized (you don't have to take the database offline for the
move). At the end of the process dismount and delete the old database to
recover the space.

well for one it has been a year since the last time we did it.
(some migration work)
now a new user has been migrated into exchange
so the db looks bigger then it should
( added up space taken by all 4 users. mean size of the their respected
mailboxes. )
not by much but it does

another thing
we "lost" about 16gb at night\
which caused exchange to unmount the database.

and later that day even log spewed out
\device\harddisk1 has a bad block error

and an hour later i noticed that the 'missing' space was detectable
again
( thou the size of DB has not changed )

Gosh!
You got to fix the disk first. Defrag may wait until then.

Remove an entire Business Unit and corresponding data from MS CRM database
We created a 2nd installation of MS CRM and copied over our entire database to the new installation. Restoring database
I am trying to restore Fabrikam and running into an error. I am using GP 10 and SQL 2005. I backed up a copy of Fabrikam from the PartnerSource Virtual PC image. I am now trying to see if I can restore the “.bak” file to a copy of Fabrikam that is installed as part of a normal GP 10 install. (I am doing this because the PartnerSource version of Fabrikam is more complete than the version of Fabrikam that ships with GP 10 itself.) Unfortunately, I am not getting very far. If I try to restore from inside of GP, logged in under a different company, I simply get an “unknown error”. If I...
