Empty cell in vlookup

hi, is there a way to have a vlookup see an empty cell and rather than
filling it in with a 0 it could leave it blank? here's my vlookup formula

=IF(A21="","",VLOOKUP(A21,'PN Source Code'!$A$1:$H$25,8,FALSE))

Thank you in advance for your help :)

I was excited to see this post as I was trying to figure out the same thing!

MY CODE (Excel 2007):
=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(K6,Developers!$D$5:$R$143,6,0)),"",VLOOKUP(K6,Developers!$D$5:$R$143,6,0))

USING YOUR IDEA:
=IF(K6="","",if(VLOOKUP(K6,Developers!$D$5:$R$143,6,FALSE)="","",VLOOKUP(K6,Developers!$D$5:$R$143,6,FALSE)))

However, I get a #N/A error now when before it correctly filled the cell
with the information.

In some instances, there is no data in the other sheet, so it displays 0. I,
like "confused", want to replace the 0 with a blank.

Thanks!

What type of data does your lookup formula return, is it text or numeric or
can it be either?

Text.

The user selects a course developer from a drop-down box on the Development!
sheet in Column K (which is populated from data in the Courses! sheet). After
making a selection, the developer's e-mail addres, for example, appears in
Column L. The spreadsheet gets this information from the Developers! sheet.

With the formula I used before, it works correctly. It just puts 0 in the
cell if there is no e-mail address currently in the Developers! sheet.

I just want to replace the 0 with a blank, until an e-mail address is
entered in the Developers! sheet.

Thanks!

=IF(COUNTIF(Developers!$D$5:$D$143,K6),T(VLOOKUP(K6,Developers!$D$5:$R$143,6,0)),"")

Highlight changes within cell
Good morning! Using Excel 2003 I need to highlight the changes I’m making within a cell. For example: In cell B2, is the customer’s original order quantity of 200. I revise it to show 225 and I’d like the cell to be highlighted in yellow. I can then copy and paste the info into an email to show the customer which items have been revised. I’ve tried using Track Changes, but it seems that I have to click on the Track Changes button each time I open the workbook. It also doesn’t keep the revision highlighted for a copy and paste. I have 20+ worksheets within the workbook an...

Bug? Multiple values in merged cells
I found that merged cells can contain multiple values. Steps to reproduce: Type 1,2,3,4 in a1:d1 type sum(a1:d1) in e1 Select a1:b1 and merge Warning : MultipleData, overwrite? Say yes to merge Select the merged a1:b1 cells Copy Select c1 PasteSpecial Formats No warning.. no overwrite. c1:d1 are now merged BUT d1 still contains a value... and the SUM of a1:d1 = 8 !! Also happens with FormatPainter etc Behaviour observed in xl97,xlXP and xl2003 Error checking will find no fault in the sheet... and you can spend ages to find out WHY your cross sums dont match! (although now that i fou...

CSV file with 13space characters in blank cells
In my office we've just received a recurring report which has been modified (by someone. Previously (a CSV file) the Data area (say A1:M30 ) had numbers or blank cells representing 0 (zero) values. Now, however the blank cells ARE NOT BLANK (although they appear blank) all cells without numbers have 13 hard-space values in them, which is causing #VALUE! problems; I temporarily added an intermediate sheet with formula: =IF(ISNUMBER(VALUE(MySheet!B2)),MySheet!B2,0) to eliminate the #Value! problem; Is there a better way? I'm sure there is, just not certain at this point in time. Any ...

Vlookup & If
Hi, I have a workbook, Master sheet containing this info :cell A4 contractor name, B4 site location, c4 job cost etc to G4. There are several contractors for the one job, so it may be that a4-a12 contain a contractor name, and cells c4-g4 are the only cells that have information entered relevant to all in a4-a12. I then have a worksheet for each contractor. What I need to do is enter a formula in the individual contractor worksheets that pulls across the information for each job (up to say 500rows, all roughly the same as example above). the formula I have entered is only bri...

Automatic resizing of cell
I use Excel for my job. When I enter a long text sentence into a cell that is larger than the cell, it gets covered up because the text wrapping is on. I want the sentence to wrap around to the next line, but Excel doesn't automatically adjust the size of the cell when it sees that the text is longer. I end up printing out my work and only half of the sentence is there. I can resize it myself, but I want Excel to resize it when it sees that it's covering it. I can't see why anyone would actually WANT Excel to cover it up. Which version of Excel are you using. I'm u...
