XP linking to external cells bug?

to link to cells across sheets or books you can simply:

type '=' in the local book
navigate to the cell(s) on the external book

it's a documented technique and works perfectly with previous versions of
XL - Excel XP seems to be unreliable at this - sometimes it doesn't seem to
create the link?

I've put this down to the fact that XP runs multiple XL books as independant
applications, and possibly dependant on how you open each book - but i don't
know for sure and i need this to work reliably

Anyone noticed this bug? if so, anyone know how to make it work reliably

This might be an Option problem.

Make sure Tools > Options > Calculation
that both update remote references and save external link values are checked.

Thanks but it's not link saving or updating - it simply wont create a link
at all

I'm suprised no one else has noticed unless i'm the only person still links
books together :o)

One Last Try:

When you open the two workbooks to establish the linkage, open them both in
the same instance of Excel. That is, don't open them by double clicking the
workbook icon. Instead first open Excel and from Excel open the workbooks by
using:

File > Open

and then use the Open browser to open them. Perhaps the problem is two
instances of Excel not being able to see each other.

Let us know how things go.

Good Luck

XP visual styles in tab controls
Hi everybody! I'm having a couple of problems applying the new Windows XP visual styles to a legacy application. A property sheet with several property pages looks perfect: http://us.f1f.yahoofs.com/bc/73e7d6dc/bc/Publica/tipos.PNG?bfu0tUCBbAssDiq_ ...., but a similar dialog box implemented with a tab control looks somewhat different: http://us.f1f.yahoofs.com/bc/73e7d6dc/bc/Publica/dossiers.PNG?bfu0tUCBZP_fQ1Wi The problem is that the content of each tab has the same color of the tip of the tab in the property sheet, whilst one and the other differ in the second version. Arrow appears next to some cells
Hi all, I have a problem with an Excel sheet someone sent me by email. I have Office XP SP2. When I select some cells in this sheet, an arrow pointing down appears to the right of the cell. This arrow opens a blank drop down selection box. How can I remove this arrow. I can paste a blank cell over this cell to remove the arrow, but I want to know exactly how to add/remove this arrow in the future. Thank you. Cell Formatting Defaults To Scientific
Hi I have a spreadsheet that a user is having problems with. One of the columns contains a job name which is made up of numbers and letters. If I enter 7E1, it immediately formats the cell to Scientific and turns the information into 7.00E+01 Even if I go in and format the cells to General and try to re-enter the details, it does exactly the same. Is there a way to stop this happening. Regards Formatting to General doesn't help, as you've found. Either format the cell as TEXT before you enter the data, or precede the data with an apostrophe. -- David Bid...

Outlook XP hangs #2
Help! I can't get my outlook to do anything. Once it opens, t jams and then says not responding. What can I do? Will reinstalling the software help? You may have a corrupted outcmd.dat file. This is the file that stores your toolbar customizations, and when it becomes corrupted, Outlook can't use it at startup to build your toolbars, thus causing the hangups. Try renaming or deleting your outcmd.dat file while Outlook is closed. Renaming it might be the best idea if you have a lot of customizations that you'd prefer not to lose; that way if renaming the file doesn't solve...

How to use an integral for cell output value.
Suppose in the A column, I have a column of data in cells A(1) to A(10). I would like the output data in cells B(1) to B(10) to be given by the formula: B(N) = Integral of f(x)dx, evaluated from 0 to 10. Where f(x) = sin[A(N) * pi * x / 10] This integral gives a real # in all cases; my hand-held calculator can solve them, but it's tedious to do each calculation individually (because in reality I have way more than 10 values I need to solve).
