force Excel to treat numbers as text
Sorry I searched this and no one seems to have a solution. I trie
pre-defiming columns as text but it gets over-riden by the paste. Past
Special doesn't do the trick..
paste special as text on tabular data coming from a web site puts mos
of the data in the first column. It no longer spreads the columns o
pasted data into its own excel columns

Hi I have a form set up in excel with check boxes, and I wish to protect the
sheet but allow users to be able to select and deselect the check boxes.
When I protect the sheet and then use the sheet, an error mesage lets you
know the sheet is protected and read only, I have tried in format control for
the check box to deselect the locked option and lock text option. Its bound
to be simple but help is always welcome.
Try unlocking the cells that are linked to the checkboxes.

need to see the headings, sometimes not. Is it possible to turn on or off the

Never mind. If I select all sheets by right-clicking on the tabs, then
checking or unchecking headings in Show/Hide, the headings are toggled, so
the problem is solved.

At the moment I have a worksheet with a list of client in one column and then
in another column that uses an IF formula to display either the number of
days to the deadline or text which says No Deadline. What I want to do is
enter some kind of formula so that a list of clients with deadlines between 1

gives an error readin and it sits there incomplete.

I am defining groups of cells as a name by using these
steps, "Insert", "Name", "Define". This works great when
I'm on the one worksheet, though I find a brief problem
when I try to span across worksheets.
I've taken 6 cells from one worksheet and one from
another. If I do a normal sum, the answer is 1795. If I do
a sum on the defined name, it comes to 3595.5. I thought
for some odd reason that the result was doubled, but it's

I'm running Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003. I created a public folder named
"Trades Shows" as a calendar. I can view "Trades Shows" from the calendar
list view under Mail, but I'm unable to open the calendar from the calendar
tab by choosing "Open a Shared Calendar". When I choose to view Public
Folders from the dropdown no public folders are listed. I have 10 public
folders and none of them are listed in the dropdown selection list. Any
idea why this would be the case?

I have a chart based on numbers in a spread that has a grey background (The chart) but I
would like the background to be white and can not get it to change.
I right clicked on the chart and went to Format Chart Area, Patterns, Fill Effects,

I am having trouble with a calculation that on the surface seems to be working until it is opened up in excel
The measure calculates the Actual Value as of last year and is as follows - ([Measures].[Act Val],ParallelPeriod([Time].[Year],1)

I am using a third party retailing WWW page development tool to update
a database of various item information on a WWW page. My boss is a
