Controlling automatic rows for inserting in Excel lists
One of the nice features of the new Excel 2003 Lists is that when you add new data at the end of the list, Excel automatic creates new rows for the insertion of data. You get a warning that this will happen, and also you get the opportunity to stop Excel showing this warning in the future Now a simple question: How do you get Excel to show the warning again? I would have thought it was in the option dialog box, but I can't find it Regards ...

Excel: Can I display a chart when the mouse is over a cell?
I have a worksheet and i need to be able to have a range of cells from another worksheet display when the mouse pointer is over a certain cell on the first worksheet. Is there a way to do this? If the range of cells is static and the contents of those cells don't change, you could create a comment for the cells in the first worksheet and put the values of other other worksheet in the comment. Other than that I cannot think of any other way, not even with VBA since XL doesn't raise any event when the cursor is over a particular cell. -- Regards, Tushar Mehta www.tushar-mehta...

I would like to change the overall color of weekend days in the calendar views. For example, Mon thru Fri could be the default blue color but Sat & Sun would be a red color. Changing Address List path?
My Outlook 2003 pst file is in a non-default location. To point Outlook at that location, I first tried File Data File Management. This allowed me to Open my contacts, but it didn't allow me to redefine the Personal Address Book. Finally, I just closed Outlook, renamed the default pst, opened Outlook, and then responded to the error messages. One symptom of this sloppy approach is that when I click on the To button in a new message, Outlook doesn't go to the correct pst. Question: How do I clean up my mess? That is, how do I make Outlook recognize my relocated pst in all cases? Than...

Excel 97 not saving
I have a user on WinXP / Office 97. User states that sporatically, she is unable to save an Excel file on either her hard drive or the network drive. These files have macros in them, and up until she was upgraded to XP and began using macros, she had no problems saving. The only error being reported is "Document could not be saved." In her latest email to me she writes: Please note that the problem is intermittent and I do not know what is triggering the problem other than it has only happened since I started using XP and files with Macros. I have seen documentation that a...

Best Way to get data out of SQL Server into Excel
Hello, I have a VB.NET app that uses SQL Server. The front-end is an ASP.NET app that runs at an ISP. I would like to let my client pull up an ASPX page, request some pre-canned query where they perhaps supply a transaction date range for my job table, and then I want to run that query against SQL Server. I would like to have it saved on the requesters machine in a format that excel can utilize. Ideally after the query runs I would like it to prompt the user with a file dialog th...

can you do a bi-directional link in excel
Excel is a pull application. You can use formulas to retrieve a value from another cell, but you can't use a formula to push a value to another cell. There are some macro workarounds that will allow you to update multiple cells, but I find it safer to put the data in one spot and use formulas to grab that value. Any way to get my hands on Excel version 4?
According to Hector's reply to my earlier posting, I probably can't edit macros in an old spreadsheet because they were created using version 4. Is there any way to get my hands on version 4 so I can edit just a couple of macros, rather than having to recreate the entire spreadsheet? Or, any other way to do the edits, other than finding version 4 software? You can still edit Excel 4 macros. You can even write new ones, you just can't record them anymore by doing something and have Excel record it in a macro sheet. Open a new macro sheet with CTRL+F11. Not ALT+F11, that will op...

Fill bar/column charts with patterns in Excel 2007?
Is there anyway that I can fill a bar/column chart with patterns as I can do with Excel 2003? I know that MicroSoft removed this feature in Excel 2007. But I don't understand why they do it. Lots of academic journals prefers black and white charts than shaded or charts with gradient. Also, it's hard to tell one series of data from another series if they are printed in black and white. Any help is appreciated. Excel 2007 doesn't use these patterns anymore. Did you really find them useful in Excel 2003? They printed at such a fine resolution that different patters were ind...

Detect if Excel file is "read only"???
If I open an Excel file which someone is currently using, Excel will display a caption in the title bar that says "read only". Excel is probably telling me that the file is read only because another user currently is using the file. My question is, does Excel have a function (or can I create my own) which returns TRUE if the file is "read only" or FALSE otherwise??? I'm mostly interested in a function that returns TRUE if Excel displays the "read only" caption due to the file's state of being in use. thank you if activeworkbook.ReadOnl...
