Two issues with axis labeling

I have been having a few issues with getting my figure just right in
excel. My two main issues are as follows:

1. Is there a way to use scientific notation for all y-axis values
except zero? It just looks silly.

2. For my current figure the data points range from 440-700. I was
wondering if it is possible to have the first tick mark start at 450 and
then proceed in increments of 50 for major tick marks and 25 for minor.
I currently have the tick marks in the correct increments but they start
at 440 and end at 690. I would prefer to have the first tick mark 10
units to the right of the origin.

I attached a visual of the graph in question. I can always use
Kaleidagraph but I would prefer to just do it in excel since that's
where all the data is.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here is how to do the first part. Format the axis - Number - Custom
- 0E+00;#;#,### - Add. This gives the formatting for
positive;negative;zero

For the second part, I'm not entirely sure what you mean but it looks
like Format the axis - Minimum Fixed 450 - Maximum Fixed 700 - Major
Unit Fixed 50 - Minor Unit Fixed 25 - Minor Tick Marks Outside.

This is 2007 but other versions should do the same. xt

One paystub, two paychecks
I work for the U.S. Navy and therefore receive my paychecks from Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). The way DFAS pays me is like this: -On the first day of the month, DFAS projects how much I'll earn that month in base pay, how much I'll pay in taxes, additional deductions/allotments, and then comes up with my Net Pay for the month. Pretty straightforward. -On the 15th of the month, DFAS pays me -half- of my projected Net Pay for that month. -On the last day of the month, DFAS pays me the other half. At that point I get a paystub which reflects my income, taxes, ...

changing the location of the x axis labels
Hello, I'm trying to make column graphs by using excel 2002. The problem is, my y axis values have some negative numbers, so the x axis labels overlap with some of the columns. Is there anyway to relocate the x axis labels while keeping the category x axis crossing at zero? Thanks! Double click on the axis. On the Patterns tab, for Tick Labels, choose the Low option. The axis will remain at zero, but the labels will move to the bottom of the chart. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions Peltier Technical Services, Inc. - http://PeltierTech.com ___...

Are there any known issues using Line Item comments for all SOP do
Hi all, I recently modified a SOP Packing slip to add Line item comments for each line to show an additional numeric value as a text (weight) printed on each line item. The way it is setup is that there will be unique line item comments (click the -> on the line item comment field, not the magnifying glass lookup and then just type text for each comment, click OK and save the line item). I've used up all of the User-defined fields including tracking #s and so I am down to adding comments. EXT. and Modifier are not options at this point. I also tried adding Document Notes to t...

Linking two cells in two books
Hi, I have two workbooks. In Book1, I want A2 to be exactly the same as B1 in Book2. The problem is that every night, I run a program which updates Book2, inserting a new row 1, so the value in B1 is now pushed down to be the value in B2 and a new value is inserted into in B1. I want this new value in B1 to be reflected in A2 (Book1). That is, for A2 (Book1) to always be the same value as B1 (Book2), even when B1 becomes a new row with a new value. I thought I would be okay if I used dollar signs, so for A2 in Book1, I have: ='[Book2.xls]AA'!$B$1 But it doesn'...

Aligning tick marks and labels on line charts or scatter charts
I have the following data: X Y 1 0.2 2 0.8 3 0.5 4 0.7 I would like to plot it using a line chart or a scatter chart with X on the horizontal axis and Y on the vertical. I would like the X range of the graph to go from 0.5 to 4.5, so that the first and last point are NOT on the extreme edges of the graph. I would like the X axis to be labelled only at 1, 2, 3 and 4. I would like a tick mark aligned with each of these labels. Is this possible in Excel? Here is what I am finding... Using a Line chart: Option 1. Issues & Risks Rollup
If I enter a risk in one of my workspaces and assign it to myself, it shows up on the PWA home page, at the top where it says "1 new risk assigned to you." I can then go to the Issues and Risks page and see that I do have an active risk assigned to me. However, when I do the same with Issues, the PWA homepage doesn't show that I have a new issue assigned to me. Also, when I go to the Issues and Risks page, I can SEE the projects that have issues I've assigned to myself, but they all show a zero count for active issues. Label Syncing
Currently every label from Gmail is being synced with Live Mail. Is there a way to sync only a couple and not the others? Hi Saberahul, Yep, we have a way for you to only sync some labels. If you are using the new beta, select your Gmail account, then go to Accounts->IMAP folders on the ribbon. split y axis for visual clarity
I have a data series I want to chart. Most of the data lies within a set value range; however, there is one (so far) data value that is huge compared to its neighboring months and this creates a visual problem. To accomodate the scale range of the one odd data point, all the other data look very small and it is difficult to see the relative size of the majority of the data as time goes by. Is there a way to "split" the scale on the y axis so I can make the majority of data more visible, with only the top of the odd piece showing above the split scale? I hope I asked this c...

axis fields
When using a line or scatter chart, how can I change the field displayed on the x-axis to the y-axis and vice-verse? For example, let's say I want to plot (a) the price of hamburgers, vs. (b) the quantity of hamburgers purchased. If the chart wizard formats the chart so that the price is on the x-axis, how do I get the price to change to the y-axis? This is an unbelievably basic question which I cannot find addressed clearly in any MS help. It cannot possibly be this hard, can it??? To get the most out of your charts, you need to plan them before they're already made. This ...

Two formula questions...
