Applying GPOs based on Operating System Version (item-level targetting)
Hi, we have a Win2003 AD with one server acting as the PDC and a small bunch of GPOs. All clients are running WinXP SP3. The whole network / AD is well working. Our management now wants Windows 7, but only on their computers, we're getting a WinXP/Win7 mixed environment (thanks Boss!). Thus we have to split some GPOs (eg. Folder Redirection, etc.). We could clone each security group, one for XP users/computers and the other for Win7 and apply GPOs only to the correct group but that might not be the best solution. We would like to use the item-level targetting like in dri...

Interested in Microsoft CRM
My company is a Financial Services company that is interested in implementing MS CRM. This would initially be done for the Investment Advisory portion of our business and later implemented for the rest of the organization. Are there any MS CRM customers/clients in the Investment Advisory business that can comment on their deployment of MS CRM and there overall experience as far as usage of this solution? Also, can you comment on whether the solution was useful without customization or was there customization to the product. If there was customization, then how much (% amount) and wh...

"Configuring Microsoft Office Basic 2007" every time I start
I added memory to my PC and Office 2003 started to misbehave (and it could not find a CAB file that was on the CD) so I removed it and upgraded to Office 2007. Now every time I start my PC it spends time configuring itself. I might add iTunes is the same. It means starting the PC is an even more laborious process than usual. Oh, and I have some annoying update to XML something or other that does not install either, and does not go away. It is ironic that the extra memory was to improve perforamnce. Every step forwards involves two steps back. Apart from swapping to App...

Automatically update Value for data label
Hello I am using Excel 2003 SP2, and have some graphs which have the value (data label) for the last month. Each month new data is entered and the data label has to be deleted for the previous month and the data label for the most recent month added (it still uses the same old data - new data is only entered for the most recent month). Is there any way where the data label can automatically update with the most recent months value (as the chart updates itself automatically currently). Any ideas appreciated. Thank you in advance. extracting numbers from a text field and applying formula
here's my question... i have a cell that has a text field of this type: '9-19' (a-b) I want to create a formula that will subtract 19-9 (b-a) and return the result as a number// can anyone help?! is this even doable? Security descriptors in Windows Server 2003
Hello Expert(s) In windows 2003 SP2 server if we run "chkdsk /f" in data volume then the Chkdsk.exe utility incorrectly identifies and resets security descriptors to default value. Do you have any idea how to fix that issue because in my environment there servers with more than 500 GB data and needs chkdsk /f to be run. Cheers, AD The CHKDSK utility incorrectly identifies and deletes in-use security descriptors http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831374/ -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. nonsense in microsoft .pst import attempt
Hello all, I have done 2 hours research on this topic but no one seems to have covered my exact dillema. This week I reformmatted my hard drive (with win 98) and reloaded all of my factory settings) you know...clean slate. Before shutting down I backed up all important data. Among those files a .pst that had all of my Outlook Express (v6) settings was saved too. Now with this fresh install the OE program won't allow me to load the very .pst file it created on my previous install. I see that people claim OE doesnt understand .pst files. THEN--- #1. how do I get my old settings and emai...

Excel compatible with Microsoft Works
Is Excel 2000 compatible with Microsoft Works Spreadsheet? Thanks! Hi Debbie, Excel (XL2000 and all other versions) cannot open a Works spreadsheet file nor can it save a file in that format. Works can open an XLS file; you need to select the XLS in the File Type box of the File Open dialog. BUT: Works has far less functionality that Excel so unless the XLS file is very simple a lot of 'stuff' will be lost. Works it can save a file in that format; use File SaveAs as specify XLS as the file type. Hope this is clear and of some help to you. -- Bernard Liengme www.stfx.ca/people/blieng...

Outlook 2002 level 2 security
Is there a way to change Outlook 2002 so that level 2 files open directly rather than saving to disk first? Specifically, I want to open a .url file from Outlook. I moved .url file extension from level 1 but don't see a way to move it to level 3. Is there a way to accomplish this, maybe a 3rd party utility? Thanks. None that I know of but you can check on http://www.slipstick.com/security/getexe to see if one exists. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Updated records in forms
Each record in a form is a work order. School, contractor, days of work, etc. I have a pop up calendar to select a week ending date for each record. Record 1's week ending date is Nov 13, 2009. Record 2's week ending date is Nov 20, 2009. When I change the date in record 2, it's changing the date in record 1. Each record's week ending date become all records' week ending date? Can I use a pop up calendar in a record and be able to retain the correct week ending date for each record. If so, how would I be able to accomplish this? Thanks for your inp...

A Suggestion Update For IE8's Smart Screen Filter
Greetings MS, I think that the Smart Screen Filter in IE8 is one of the best improvements in computer safety and security technology. One suggestion that I have for future updates of IE, would allow users to report an unsafe website by entering the URL link in the Report A Website Form. Users should know that currently, they must visit the website and than report it. The problem is that once you visit a bad website, your computer may already be infected or your personal identity may have already been compromised by the dangers if phishing. Interestingly the current versi...

Money 2004 will not update stock quotes after initial update
The first time I loaded Money 2004 and updated stock quotes it worked. Since then, it provides a checkmark in the Call Summary Mesages next to the message "Your call was successful" in the Category "Quotes, New, and Exchange Rates". However, I see the time of the download is the time when I ran the first update, not the most recent. Money support has not yet fixed the problem. Has anyone else had the problem? More importantly, does anyone have the fix? I deleted the program and reinstalled. Once again, it did it the first time but then the same issue occurs...
