SQL Table conflicts? 1.2-3.0 upgrade failure?

Hi,

I am trying to track down why I cannot upgrade from 1.2 to 3.0.

Since I know little about SQL could someone please help me understand why
there are about a dozen conflicts in both MSCRM and METABASE tables?

The conflicts look something like
conflict_CRMMetaPub_COMPANY__METABASE_Attribute
(about a dozen more)

There are a similar entries in the MSCRM table.

I have tried going offline/online with all the clients to see if that clears
the conflicts. What I find curious is that all the dates are creation dates
of July, 2005 when some customizations were done.

I get an "Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.Exception has been thrown by the
target of an invocation" error. Also an error along the lines of
"ImportDefaultDataAction"

PSS Says that this usually the result of customizations, but I haven't done
so much really. A couple dozen contact schema boolean fields and some more
account fields, some views, Group Calendar, and the two free plug-ins,
Interactions Side-Tab and Product Side-Tab.

PSS could not solve this issue and I am not willing, or able really, to
attempt the Data Migration given the complexity. Apparently there is no way
to really tell what the exact issue of upgrade failure is taking place.

My only guess is that at one point I created a text field when I wanted a
boolean field and ended up naming them both the same. Would that create a
conflict? Is there a way to delete a field from the CRM 1.2 contacts?

I created several "unsupported" views, such as from this bunch-

Could having these views in place compromise the 1.2-3.0 upgrade? Do they
need to be deleted prior?

Perhaps the SQL cleanup script could help, but not having any SQL skills
makes this dicey for me.

I suppose the next attempt will follow a procedure such as-

Backup
Uninstall Group Calendar, Interactions, Product Side-Tabs.
Restore isv.config and web.config.
Delete any "unsupported" views.
Run SQL cleanup script.

Try 1.2-3.0 upgrade again.

Thanks for any help or insight.

Sincerely,

yes remove the views and try again.

also when you run the crm 3.0 upgrade it creates a log file which will
provide detailed information.

Hi,

Well, I tried again and it failed again.

I did about the following-
Backup the whole rig
Uninstall CEI Interactions
Uninstall CEI Account Products
Uninstall Group Calendar

Restore original isv.config and web.config

Go to all the following "unsupported" views and strip them of all columns
except the default.

Strip all publishing subscribers.

Reset Crystal reports password to blank.

Run Upgrade.

Once again I had the exact same failure.

Restore System and Data drives.

I am extremely frustrated. I am horrified that I will have go through the
Data Migration process to get this upgrade to function. We spent thousands
of dollars. When I used one of my 2 (!!!) support request they did little or
nothing to resolve this issue. They blamed on the customizations. I have
done everything I can think of to strip customizations and this still fails!

Thanks for any help,
Sincerely,

E. Palmer -

When you are running the EDW during setup you are receiving multiple
*Warnings about unsupported customizations in the MSCRM & METABASE
datatabases correct?

Then you hit Upgrade to start the upgrade process and then it is failing
during the upgrade itself? I'm just trying to get a feel for the process you
are going through. I've seen this before in other instances.

There were not any direct modifications to the SQL Database correct? Also,
when you uninstalled the add-on tools you backed up the database after that
correct, as well as the ISV and web.config's? Otherwise if you restore an
old db from before you uninstalled the Add-On's that can lead to problems as
well.

Hi,

When I start the install I have all green lights, there are no warnings or
errors until the failure. The failure occurs well into the upgrade process (
about 1/2 hour or more, long enough to get my hopes up that it will go)

I do indeed have data fields added to the SQL schema. Quite a few actually,
I maxed out the number you are allowed to use and started reusing unused
fields.

As I mentioned in my first post,

> > > My only guess is that at one point I created a text field when I wanted a boolean field and ended up naming them both the same.

Almost all the fields I added were boolean and the customizations we did are
simple true/false notes in contacts and accounts. Stuff like "gets holiday
card" or "got 2006 survey" etc.

My backups and restores are full server, I am not playing around with
unknown corners of the system that may be changed in ways I do not
understand. The backup prior to any uninstall or start of work was full
system (system and data drives) and the restore was also full system.

Thank You again for any help or insight,

Sincerely.

My last post apparently didn't go through. You had mentioned that you
created some custom views. By chance to any of them have the same or simliar
names like the ones below:

• Accounts: No Campaign Activities in Last 3 Months
• Accounts: No Orders in Last 3 Months
• Accounts: Responded to Campaigns in Last 6 Months
• Contacts: No Campaign Activities in Last 3 Months
• Contacts: No Orders in Last 3 Months
• Contacts: Responded to Campaigns in Last 6 Months
• Leads: No Campaign Activities Sent
• Leads: Older Than 6 Months

This will causes a conflict. The issue that you are having is that either a
field that you created, a view etc has the same name or schema-name as a new
field that is present in 3.0. If you want to email me the log file from
setup: winchell_j@yahoo.com I can look at it to see if I can help pinpoint
something.

I have an Access 2003 front-end (mdb/mde) connected to a SQL Server 2000 back-end. SQL Server 2000 offers the ability to add extended properties (such as a caption, for example) to objects (tables, columns, etc.) using a stored procedure called sp_AddExtendedProperty, along with the ability to retrieve the values of these extended properties via a function named fn_ListExtendedProperty. With fn_ListExtendedProperty, four columns can be returned/selected using a Select statement: objtype, objname, name and value. The first three columns returned are of datatype sysname, whil...

I'm installing a trial copy of Microsoft CRM 3.0 that I got at a computer conference recently and I've gotten everything to work in the System Requirements dialog except that it's telling me that "The minimum required version is SQL Server 2000 SP4 (8.0.2026)". Strange this is that I do believe that I have SQL Server 2005 installed on the machine. Any idea how to be absolutely sure of what version I have installed? Have you choosed the right name of SQL server during installation set- up?` You have to make it sure if it is ...

Has anyone come across this problem before? And is there something I can do to fix or prevent this from reoccurring? It’s just not feasible to check each employee every week before payroll. Im certain that the employees were setup correctly initially. Thanks I have seen this and have not been ab...

MS POS = RMS? Also, SQL Connectivity...
I'm new to MS Dynamics software, and I may be posting this in the wrong section - please let me know if I am. I have recently opened a retail store, and purchased MS Point of Sale to manage my POS functions. Is this software also called RMS? Is it a PART of RMS? From what I can find online, I cannot tell. Also, I'm interested in connecting to MS POS's MS SQL database with an external program (OSQL) to automate some SQL queries at the end of each day. Does anyone know what I use for the datebase name (master?), username (sa?), and password? I cannot seem to find any doc...

SQL 2005 Great Plains 9 issue
I will try to keep this succinct. I am running Great Plains 9 with SQL 2005 on separate servers. Recently I brought up a new SQL server(called sql02) to replace the old SQL server(called sql01). After installing SQL 2005 on the new server and restoring all the databases I renamed the new server(sql02) to the name of the old Server(sql01). Great Plains worked happily after that. On the new SQL server now called SQL01 there are two database engines in SQL Studio, one is called SQL02 and the other is called SQL01. I would rather not have SQL02 there, but I'm not sure how to delet...

Inactive records in the "Look up records" dialogue (CRM 4.0)
Due to "dirty import data" I have a lot of duplicates in my CRM system. These have all been deactivated (but not merged) until they can be evaluated and deleted. Unfortunately, when I use "Advanced find" and use account name as a criteria, *all* accounts show up in the "Look up records" dialogue box - regardless of status. Is there any way to ensure only active accounts show up in this dialogue box?
