'Track in CRM' capabilities for calendar delegates
In Microsoft Outlook, people have the ability to designate other users as
delegates to add appointments to their calendar. This is mostly used when
people have administrative assistants who are adding appointments directly to
We need the capability for the delegate to be able to Track the Appointment
in CRM when adding an appointment to another persons calendar. If both users
have the Outlook client, this is not possible today.
The workaround we are using today is to have the delegate add the
appointment to the managers calendar but the manager has to go into the

I have a client using CRM 3, with the CRM client installed into
outlook 2003 (and the problem also exists with outlook 2007). They are
running CRM client version V3C with Update roll up 3.
They have a problem in that one member of staff needs to be able to
see the 'Track in CRM' button when viewing other users calendars. The
button appears fine when the user views their own calendar.
The user has the ability to view the other users calendar, do they
maybe need some additional rights on the other users calendar, or is
this feature just not available in CRM?

when i track an email from outlook to CRM and set it regarding a case the
description of the email in the case is very long and contains all sorts of
HTTP and XML nonsense... e.g.

I have an issue with one client computer (the others work fine), where the
"track in crm" button suddenly doesn't show when I open an e-mail. It shows
in the outlook toolbar, but not in the e-mail itself. I fixed it last time by
repairing the CRM 3.0 client installation and applying update rollup 2 and 3,
but now the problem has returned. Please help!

The email can be tracked manually by having the user use the "Track in CRM"
button. With CRM 3.0, the Exchange CRM router is an optional component that
gives you the ability to automatically promote email threads to CRM.
In addition, CRM 4.0 will not require Exchange to automatically track email.

If a contact or record does not exist, the system attaches the email nowhere!
Of course, you can see this, if you re-open it in the CRM-Form, or - like
Matt posted - always check these mails in the Assigned queue, but -is this
really practical (efficient,fast, etc.)?
I think, the following would be a good solution:
If the system can't assign the mail to a existiing record, a windows is
opened automatically, so the user can either assign the mail to an existing
record or create a new record (like it was in v1.2).

We've got a couple of clients who are seeing apparently random SQL server
errors when they click the Track in CRM button in the 4.0 Outlook client. The

I'm having an issue with tracking records in CRM. When I click the button,
nothing happens. If I hit the 'Set Regarding' button I do get "An error
occurred promoting this item to Microsoft Dynamics CRM." When creating any
new emails in Outlook, I'm not even seeing the CRM buttons on the ribbon bar.
This is the case with contacts as well.
There doesn’t appear to be anything relevant in the event logs and the
diagnostic tool doesn’t come up with anything either.
The only thing that may be out of the normal is that I previously had the

I'm running CRM 3.0 and CRM client in Outlook 2003. When using the
"Track in CRM" feature, and subsequently viewing the email in the CRM
browser interface, my email From address is displayed in Red with
warning message "The sender's e-mail address could not be resolved to a

Everything else in the CRM client seems to be working fine, and the
problem doesn't happen if I send an email from the OL CRM client
BTW, I'm an admin of the CRM system.

Upon selecting the “Track In CRM” button from the CRM line in Outlook I have
two questions based on situation:
1) If the contact exists in CRM it appears to attach the email but provides
no notice unless you try to attach it again? True?
2) If the contact does not exist it attaches the email where? In v1.2 it
opened a window and made the user create a record. I think it is attaching or
tracking the email in CRM somewhere because trying to do it again, I'm asked
if you want to attach/track it again.
Does this make sense?

We have a customer that we upgraded from 1.2. They are running Outlook 2003
and Microsoft CRM 3.0.5300. On occasion when they compose an email and

If you are using CRM 4.0, in Outlook click on the CRM menu item and then
select Options. On the Email tab, there's an option to track:
-All E-mail messages
-E-mail messages in response to CRM E-mail
-E-mail messages from CRM Leads, Contacts and Accounts

We have a central receptionist who has Author permissions to the Outlook
calendars of all the sales staff in her unit. She makes client appointments
for the sales staff and enters the appointment directly in their calendar,
but Track in CRM icon is not available in their calendar for her as Author

that suppose to solve this problem. The email could be tracked now but the
image has been put in the attachment as attachment.bin that I could not open

crm' button. Rather the button still says 'Track in CRM' because the email

I have a user who updates and creates new contacts on behalf of another user

Clicking the track-button causes a crash of MS Word.

This issue shows up when you are using Word as your email editor for
Outlook. What is happening is that the CRM toolbar used for tracking email
in CRM is also being displayed by Word. Clicking on this button in Word

If I receive an email in Outlook that has been sent to me because my email
address is in the BCC field and I click on "Track in CRM", it doesn't appear
in My assigned queue. Is this by design?
You can find it by using Advance Find from within CRM.

I'm getting lots errors when trying to "track in CRM" from outlook client.
I'm using office 2007 (with all the latest patches).
