Laptop users will connect using VPN and run the outlook client or work
offline using the laptop client.

You can also configure CRM to work using the web browser over an SSL enabled
connection

I found I could kick this into shape.

What I have not done is... secure this connection, and or work out if is
causes any problems.

What I did.

Setup an external (internet based) dns entry for our domain.

Point the A record for http://crm.domain.com to the internet connection ip
for our SBS server

Create an A recod on the SBS DNS server for the same entry but point it
locally to the serrver 192.168.1.1 etc

In iis I created a host header for the instance of CRM as
http://crm.domain.com on port 80

I then configured login authenctication under IIS security to both Basic and
Win Authenticated. And set the default domain to the server domain.

Now on this test system, ISA server is not configured.

Now basically iis is open to the wrold both internally and externally.

I can then access http://crm.domain.com from any place external or internal
and get the server.

I then installed the crappy outlook tool and used this address for the
server address. All looks to be working fine.

Next I'll test a https connection..

It cannot go without saying that I would have thought the way you wanted to
use the service is the way many others would like to use it.
Basically just fire up outlook with an internet connection and have it take
care of business....

Thus far I am VERY unimpressed wiht this product. I had expectations that it
would take all the headaches of 1.2 away. Really it has just created new
ones.

If you don't know what I am talking about... try installing it on SBS that
has been patched from 2003 original.

3 days of my life that I will never get back. Now a few more days getting it
to work the way I would have expected it to work anyway....

Should have seen the partner sales pitch the ran here... for some reason
they are really impressed with their crappy pre install tool that says..
"you got a problem.. fix it" "HELP MENU "You have a problem... bla bla bla
... Fix it!!!"

Dub, I'm sensing some frustration in your tone... Actually, I can sympathize.
Most of our clients are on SBS, and it hasn't been smooth upgrading any of
them. I especially like the help file for the Upgrade Advisor. On one
deployment I got the Duplicate SQL Server SPN detected error. When you click
on Help, it brings up a page that says in big red letters: "We Need A
Solution For This Problem." It looks like that one got out the door before
Microsoft put the solution in there. So much for Quality Assurance.

But all in all, I like CRM a lot. It presents some challenges, but there's
some really cool stuff you can do with it that I think far outweigh its
headaches. Hope you find that holds true in your case. Good luck!

Outlook 2003 and "Check Names"
Hi, We are testing Outlook 2003 at our office now and there is one very frustrating "feature" that is bugging all of us. When we create a new e-mail message and type in the first name of a person from the global address book and hit ctrl- k to check the name...we get a response that Outlook doesn't recognize the name and there are "no suggestions". The only way Check Name will successfully resolve the name is if we type it last name first (ie, Gates, Bill). This was not the case in Office XP or Outlook 2000. You could search by first name (or partial first name)...

How can I change 'Normal' Style for Word e-mails to 'Normal (Web)'?
Hi, I'm using Word as my e-mail editor in Outlook 2003 and want to change the default Style for e-mails from 'Normal' to 'Normal (Web)'. The problem is that new e-mails and replies in HTML format use the 'Normal' Microsoft Word 'Style', and this has no gap after paragraphs. The upshot of this is that when sending an e-mail, I have to press return twice to create a gap, but when the recipient views this, their software shows it as four gaps (the extra carriage return I typed + their correctly viewed HTML carriage return after each line).
