Outlook sends winmail.dat attachment when Track in CRM is clicked
If a client clicks on Track in CRM button and sends email with attachment,
for example .xls file Outlook sends it as an winmail.dat attachment which is
unreadable for many people. If the function Track in CRM is not active the
attachment is send OK.
I have played a bit with format of sent e-mails, e.g. plain text, html but
it behaves still in the same way.

In CRM 3.0 when you track an Email in CRM the only way to then open it in CRM
is to expand open the email first and then click the View in CRM button
(Unless you already have a "regarding" link setup which allows you to go
straight to that.
It's a small annoyance but is there anyway to add the "View in CRM" button
to the main fat outlook client toolbar? Then when you select track you can
then select view without having to open the email first everytime.
Again small annoyance but I'm suprised the developers didn't pick up on it.

Can somebody explain to me how the Track in CRM functionality works? Our
users have the "e-mail messages that contain a CRM tracking token" selected
as a tracking option. We don't have the router installed on the exchange
server and on the server side in system settings we have the "Track e-mail"
option set to "No" on the E-mail tracking tab. Should we set the "Exclude
e-mail" between CRM users to Yes or No?
One of our users had mistakenly pushed the "Track in CRM" button for one of

Quick question: I'm not sure I am understanding the Track in CRM function
I sent an email through Outlook and hit Track in CRM, it works great, files
the email in the persons history. When they reply, their reply does not
AUTOMATICALLY go into the history, I have to hit the Track in CRM button when
viewing the message in Outlook. WHY?? I thought this process was
streamlined, am I forgetting something.
Please Help ASAP!

It seems to me that it is not a rights issue nor a connection issue, as the
user can track other emails i CRM.
What could cause this?

This is a strange issue, but we have 1 user that when sending an email out
from outlook and the "Track in CRM" is checked the email does not go out.
You click on the send button but the email does not go anywhere. When we
uncheck the "track in crm" option it sends the email out. She could email
everyone, except these 3 contacts so far.

We are using the email router for a client, but we noticed that the icon
next each to each email that gives them the visual clue that the email is
tracked and associated is not showing up.
We looked at the contact record in CRM and the email shows up correctly, but
sometimes emails are not attached and the client can't easly see what has
been attached and not attached.
About the only visual clue is the [CRM: Regarding: contact], but they want
to get the icon back if possible.

Sorry for this newbie question, but is it better to just track the email
from within in Outlook to CRM or do you alwasy set it REGARDING TO and then
track. You only track it to the contact or to the opportunity?
As far as I know if you just track it, it will be tracked against the
Account and will show up in the History section of Accounts. Whereas if you
track and Set Regarding then it can be tracked against a Case, Lead etc. and
show up in the History of that specific item.

Many of my users have hundreds or thousands of contacts they want to
add to CRM. Many go in without issue, but some names get hacked up in
all kinds of strange ways. Example: Dr. Danielle Johnston MD has the
salutation "Dr." and the last name of "Danielle Johnston MD", no title
or suffix. However, Tim Murphy III, Esq. has the first name of

When I use "Track in CRM" from Outlook, the e-mail message normaly is saved
under history for the contact owning this e-mail adress.
When the e-mail adress don't exist, the massage is placed in a cue. I don't
get any message/alarm.

Maybe as a workaround, in addition to "Track in CRM" you can also use the

there is no clean way to do it.
the only way i know of, is to go into CRM, find the email and delete
then go back to outlook, and click the track button. you will get a

I configured some security roles for my client to fit his security policies.
However all the users assigned one of these roles can’t use track in CRM
option in the Outlook client.
When I tried to give them some access rights to leads and contact and
accounts it works, but this is not accepted at all by our client or by us or
by logic, because some users should not have access to anything but the cases.
I was thinking that track in CRM feature is depending on (the user have

When users track an email in CRM using the "Track in CRM" button from
outlook, the new activity that is created inCRM is tagged with the created by
field=SYSTEM. We want this field to be the user so we associate the email to
the user that created it in the system. Are there any ways around this,

I have been trying to figure out why e-mail will not track on my Inbox
in CRM. I have seen a number of variations on this issue.
What's different about this issue is that I can track e-mail
sucessfully in any sub-folder of my Inbox, just not my Inbox.
I tracked the request/response stream with fiddler and found that when
I track e-mail from my Inbox a final delete request is being sent to
CRM, which is resulting in the e-mail activity being deleted from CRM.
When I track e-mail from the other folders underneath the Inbox
everything works fine and a delete request is NOT being sent.

I have a customer that on one pc, sometimes when he creates an email in
Outlook, the Track in CRM button does not show up on the email form. Later,
when he creates another email, the button might be there or might not.

I changed the format of the tracking token and now whenever someone tries to
track an email in Outlook they get a message saying an error has occured. I
tried changing it back, restarting the server, but to no avail.
That is a none bug in the software, you can access the bug information on
Microsoft secure site but you can't download the fix. The fix has to be
emailed from a MS tech. If you don't have support go ahead and pay for a
single occurence and then explain your issue they will send you the fix and
refund the money for support.

Upon selecting the “Track In CRM” button from the CRM line in Outlook I have
two questions based on situation:
1) If the contact exists in CRM it appears to attach the email but provides
no notice unless you try to attach it again? True?
2) If the contact does not exist it attaches the email where? In v1.2 it
opened a window and made the user create a record. I think it is attaching or
tracking the email in CRM somewhere because trying to do it again, I'm asked
if you want to attach/track it again.
Does this make sense?
