why is " uninstalling all Office products, rebooting, installing Office and

Who said it was 'necessary'? Is this based on some decision you made in
order to express your frustration with some issue you are having? I am just
a volunteer here - another user of likely some similar products as you -
nothing more and nothing less. This is a peer-to-peer newsgroup, meaning
where one user of a product comes to ask questions and get assistance from
other users of similar products.

Something is wrong with that specific computer. Something has likely become
corrupt. Most likely due to some third party applications, infection or
infestation or even a hardware issue. The problem is not all that
wide-spread - despite you perhaps believing it is because of the number of
complaints you see here. Why do I say that? Millions upon millions of
installs of the Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office products are likely.
There are only a small number (a few hundred) of complaints. While one
could say that is because people don't know about this venue - and that
could be valid - you would also hear about it elsewhere if it was so
widespread (and you do not hear about it elsewhere.)

Also - all of this is assuming this particular person's issues is similar to
anyone elses. Right now - unless you have some inside knowledge unavailable
to the rest of us (see the entire conversation quoted above) - the actual
issue(s) are pretty much unknown. Someone who called themselves "tealeaf"
is having issues installing three specific (actually happy to have that much
information - it's unusual) updates which in this case are all centered
around Office 2007. What we don't know is if they even have an Office 2007
suite installed, one or two Office 2007 products (Word and Outlook? Excel?
Powerpoint?) or just some viewers (like the Word and/or PowerPoint viewers.)
We don't know if they are running these products on Windows XP (and what
edition of Windows XP and/or what architecture - 32 or 64-bit) with SP1a,
SP2 or SP3 installed OR Windows Vista (what edition of Windows Vista and/or
what architecture - 32 or 64-bit) with SP1 or SP2 OR Windows 7 (what edition
of Windows 7 and/or what architecture - 32 or 64-bit)?

Now you could ask, "Why would any of that be relevant?" and continue being
antagonistic just to be antagonistic - or you could just try and help and/or
provide the information if you are having a similar problem and/or try the
suggested solutions and report back your results. It really doesn't matter
all that much to anyone here - again - peer-to-peer newsgroup. *shrug*

To avoid confusion, please begin a new thread about your specific problems.
State your IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1;
Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) in your first post.

I have the same problem, but have not had the issue with KB960003 that you
have. Neither ..13 or ..04 will install. Any solutions?

Check out google on these "will not install" and you will see this is a
widespread problem. My computer is clean as a whistle. Just installed MS
2007 Office and now these won't install. Hmmmm. Connection? My problem or
MS"s?

What concerns me about your lenghty response below, Shenan, is I don't get
the feeling that you have dealt with this problem and are just offering
advice in the dark. If I am incorrect, I apologize, but would prefer to hear
from someone who has solved these "won't install problems." Red Raider

What lengthy response? Maybe you are speaking of another conversation?

I do have a spiel that is for those having general update issues - and its
success rate is much higher than not - and it almost always also leaves the
machine cleaner/running better. ;-)

My advice is for this person whether it has been repeated to other people or
not. Most update issues are the same - something is corrupt in the updating
system and needs to be fixed and the something that corrputed it removed.
Also - it is difficult to help people without knowing some details from
them. That's what I asked for.

I have and do install the same updates as everyone else here 100s of times
each month on 100s of computers (more likely, but 100s is fine.) Just
because you can find a few dozen, few hundred even a few thousand hits about
something similar does not make it widespread. ;-) Walk into an emergency
room and see lots of people with broken arms - doubt it is an epidemic.
Probably wouldn't have jumped to that conclusion at the local ice cream
shop. ;-)

People report problems, often loudly, but are not as likely to report
successes.

Then you don't have the same problem. ;-)

Same questions, with some additional queries and step-by-step assistance in
order to get that information as accurately as possible.

Right-click on the "My Computer"/"Computer" icon and chose
"Properties" from the menu that appears. When the new window
appears - ensure you are under the "General" tab. Is there
*anything* in there to indicate you have a 64-bit version of Windows?

Next we will get the edition and version information...

 Start button --> RUN
(no "RUN"? Press the "Windows Key" + R on your keyboard)
 --> type in:
   winver
 --> Click OK.

The picture at the top of the window that opens will give you the general
(Operating System name and edition) while the line starting with the word
"version" will give you the rest of the story. Post _both_ in response
to this message verbatim. No paraphrasing - instead - ensure
character-for-character copying.

What version of Internet Explorer are you currently using? Easy to find
out. Open Internet Explorer and while that is in-focus, press and hold
the "ALT" key on your keyboard. With the "ALT" key still pressed, press
(just once, no holding) the "H" key. Now, with the "ALT" key still
pressed, press (just once, no holding) the "A" key. That will bring up
the "About Internet Explorer" window. It will give you the exact version
you are using - repeat what you see there in response to this message.

Tried manually downloading and installing the updates?

What antivirus software do you have installed? (Exact version please.)

Are you using the built-in Windows Firewall - or a third party? If
third-party, which one? (Exact version please.)

I would suggest uninstalling any third party firewall products completely
for now. Might even reset your Microsoft Update system and a Diagnosis on
your Microsoft Office installation (
