Hello ZIDAC,

In a domain WINS isn't needed by default, AD relies complete on DNS. But
there are services and applications that still require WINS. Also if you
have multiple subnets in use WINS is needed to have a fully functional network
browsing capability.

But in a single domain with only one subnet and no applications WINS isn't
needed. I have some simple domains in use without WINS servers.

Best regards

WINS is not needed for Active Directory, but Exchange 2003 and prior needs
for full functionality.

Also, WINS helps clients on seperate subnets browse via network neighborhood
and some legacy apps also require it.

Hi all, Could somebody please please please take pity on me and have a look at what I am doing and see where I am going wrong? This problem has been driving me up the wall for days. Bill Pay Question #2
If I use my bank's online bill pay, the payment for a certain bill will be taken out 1 day before the bill is due. It then shows up in Money when I update. If I try to pay the same bill next month via Money, it says it has to withdraw the money 5 days in advance instead of the 1. If the bill is due in 2 days, Money won't let me pay it that quickly, so I have to go back to my bank's online billpay to get it done. Is there a setting that I'm unaware of that can update the days needed to make the payment? Normally Money will want you to "submit" the bill pay...

Kind of OT: .pdf question
About the only thing this question has to do with Publisher is that I used it to create the orginal file but I know someone here can answer my question. I used a "fancy font" to create a masthead for an annual newsletter. The font is consisted of letters made up of little x's like cross-stitching. Appropriate because (1) the newsletter is for needleworkers and (2) it's a "sampler" of the full newsletter. Anyway, I didn't want to take a paper copy to the printer and have him run a copy of a copy so I made a .pdf file, which is fine on my system, and gave it to t...

Win 7 x64 and problems with ERUNT
I have, since loading Win 7 x64, not been able to use ERUNT to automatically backup the Registry at startup. It appears that if you elect for the ERUNT default configuration to save the 'backup' to %systemroot%\ERDNT the backup will fail. However, I have since learned, (Google where else?) that if you elect to save the backup to another folder it will succeed. In my case I save the backup to a USB drive (P:\ERDNT) and 'autobackup' runs as it should at startup. ...

Printing in Win NT vs Win 2000
When printing a document in NT, it is coming out differently than from 2000. It doesn't matter what printer you print to. I've tried 4 different printers so far. The option in Excel is fit to 1x1 page. Any ideas? Thank you. Kathy I'm afraid it is difficult to get prints the same from different printers and operating systems as the drivers will be different all round. Excel uses setting from the drivers. You could try and ensure that all same printers have all same version of drivers for each operating system. (Normally manufacturers release them all together for Winx) ...

Question about Win 2003 R2 OEM license key
I installed Win 2003 R2 with a used OEM license key and media. Obvious it cannot be activated with this key. I asked the vendor to get a new license key. What the vendor told me is even I get the new license key, I will need to re-install Win 2003 with the media it shippes! Is this true? My believe is as long as it is unused new OEM license, I can just put the key in, even the Win 2003 is installed with a media that tagged with a different license key. Am I right here? Copy drawing question
Greetings, In my work, I find it necessary to make a copy of an entire drawing, then make a few changes and end up with two or more cases. I do this copy by inserting a new page, selecting all on the original drawing, grouping them, and then copying and pasting them onto the new page. Some of the starting drawings were created by others. In many cases, the copy ends up with the Visio tags vs. the names assigned in the original. Renaming takes a long time. Is there a way, maybe VB programming, that would copy the drawing with the same names? I guess in you were programming the copy you...
