Activex Windows Media Player control issue
I have a form with an Activex WMP control, and I wish to have the control play a .wma file when a command button is clicked. I want the .wma to be determined based on the currently displayed record (i.e. the record refers to a song, and I want that song to play). If I hard-code the path to the .wma into the Player.URL field, it works fine, but if I try to use a variable (constructed from fields and constants), it does not. I get an error "The file you are attempting to play has an extension (.wma") that does not match the file format. Playing the file may result in unexp...

Windows Server Enterprise and/or x64 editions at RMS
Will it work? I'm running SBS 2K3 with 4GB RAM (OS Max) on a 3.6Ghz P4 Xeon and this thing is just hammered. The server hosts one Store Ops DB and the HQ DB, plus HQ server. It runs an automated backup and hosts Wildfire (a private IM service). That's it. I don't run MS Exchange, I do have one printer queue that's hosted by the server, but it might print 50 pages on a busy day--many days it's none or just a few. I do host about 10 users' My Documents folders on the server, but even that traffic should be pretty easy for the server to handle. If I buy a new ...

Windows Firewall Configuration
Hi, Windows has a built in firewall, though it's been out of sight until Service Pack 2 on windows XP. Now, whenever an application opens a client or server socket connection, an alert is displayed to the user. But I'm implementing a custom webserver app, that will run as a service on the background (under local user system account). As such, no direct GUI interaction is possible between user and the service, because the service will be running under a different account than the logged in user. So, what does this mean for my Service in regard to this firewall? Is there some kind of ...

Developer Toolkit / Scrolling Window Fill event
Does anyone know why scrolling windows don't have the Fill event exposed in the Developer Toolkit? Is this by design? Since the current Visual Studio Tools doesn't have access to table buffers (in any type of window) there isn't any point of having this event. On a "Fill" event, the window fields aren't filled in until after your event runs. Since you then have no idea of what data is going to be displayed (to do whatever with) there wasn't a point to having the event and so it was removed. I think this is going to be rectified in 10.0. patrick mbs dev supp...

Upgrade from Windows 95
I would like to upgrade an old pc from Windows 95 so that my 80 yr old mother can play games on it. Buying games for windows 95 compatability seems difficult, so thought the best thing to do is upgrade to a later version of windows. Can you advise me how to proceed? 1. Not an Office issue. 2. If it has Windows 95 you may find that the best you can do is upgrade to Windows 98, which may prove to be as challenging to purchase. If you look at the prices of computers now, you'll find that it won't cost an arm and a leg to buy a basic new computer. Maybe less than trying t...

I want that the lower one will follow the upper (which may be used by the user) so that the relative palcement between them would remain constant. Is that possible and how? Thanks Yaros Sure. Would prefer if there is any Microsoft article available with this issue. Windows Mail, as in the email client that comes with Vista? reference to dialog bars in main window
Hello I have created a dialogbar that displays upon starting my program. I have several functions in my CView class that I would like to be able to reference that dialogBar and update information therein. How do I get a reference to this dialogbar? I am assuming that I would get a reference to the main or parent window and that would do it? Thanks for the help Jason Wolfe Presumably your dialog bar object is a member of CMainFrame (or other CFrameWnd derived class)... You get AfxGetMainWnd() to obtain the pointer to the main application window. Thus, in your view class you can use: CMai...
