% Complete in Lag time vs. Durations

I have already done my lag time in days. Today I opened an existing
plan of someone else's and saw that some of their lag time had %
complete and some had days. Why would you want to do this?

Is there anyway I can change the % complete into days?
When I have tried it has been changing the task I am on...not the
succesor.

Lag time with % complete????? Just what are you seeing? How were the lag
times created?

Hi Goobie,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I'm afraid you're using terms I can't equate with your problem. Lag is =
introduced by you to prevent the next task from starting - it can't have =
a %complete. Can you re-phrase your question? Perhaps give an example?

Hi,

It's not a %complete, but % of the predecessor's duration.

Lag can be specified in days or percentage. To edit/change double click the
link and change the value in the lag box. Or simply edit the percentage.

There are a few reasons to use percentage lag. It responds better to tasks
that you know have a variable duration for example, but in general I prefer
to keep things very simple and avoid putting any sort of lag on tasks.

I apologize. I meant the lag was a % not a % complete. If I change the
value in the lag box will it automatically turn the percent into a
duration?
And what do you mean by double click on link? Do you mean task?

In the gantt chart, double click on the link between the two tasks.
Or look in the predecessors or successors field and edit there.

If I do that though I have to manually figure out what 10% equals in
duration though. And when I do that it is changing the pred date..not

Yes, you will have to figure out what that lag should be. Beyond that you
need to know why there is a lag.
Project can't help you with that. This is one reason I would rather use a
dummy task instead of a lag.

This is my third day on the job & I am just trying to clean up a
Project Plan I inherited. LOL So guess I will have to go find the task
owners and get educated. I was hoping for an easy fix. LOL

Unless you understand the tasks in the project your scheduling is

Where do you think you will be by the end of the week?
What do you think your chances are of getting on top of this and looking
good?
What do you think the chances are that you will have an incredibly
frustrating time and end up worse off than when you started?
This one issue that you have brought up here, that someone else has a
mixture of days and % as lags is warning enough that this is just the tip of
the iceberg.
How many tasks have lag in predecessors? Many?
It should only be used, if at all, for when concrete sets or paint dries,
and anyway, as Jack says, it is better practice to use a dummy task instead.
If you have lots of date constraints, negative lag, positive lag, SS/FF/SF
predecessors and a few other typical problems, then you are probably looking
at a mess.
Put it up on Rapidshare, or send it along, and let's have a look.

CFileDialog -- auto completion issue
I'm using an extended CFileDialog (provides Win2k dialog support) and all is working fine, but I had one minor tweak question. If I have the files: c:\temp\test.xml c:\temp\test.txt And I specify that the dialog is only looking for .xml files, when a user types into the file name field "test", the auto-complete dropdown lists suggests both possibilities. I'd like for it only to suggest the .xml file since that's what the dialog's filter is set to. This works in Office 2000, but with any other app that uses the dialog, you'll get the multiple "incorrect&quo...

A .mdb file seems to encompass both the database and all the 'code' (forms, modules, and logic) used to CRUD the data in the tables. 1) Is there any way to separate the database from the code into separate files, eg. the db is mydata.mdb and the 'code is in a separate file, eg. code.mdb? 2) Say you have v1.0 of an app and the tables and attributes are populated with data. You then go and build v2.0 of the app, adding tables and columns to what already existed i...
