starting OL 2000 with the /prefetch:1 command line switch

I have just become aware of the: /prefetch:1 command line switch to make
applications start faster. For some reason, it works on my OE 6 program
(and many others I have installed on my Pentium IV PC running XP Home SP2)
but not on my OL 2000 program. When I start OL2000 with the following
command line:

"E:\Microsoft Office\Outlook2000\Office\OUTLOOK.EXE" /prefetch:1

I get an error message that says:

the command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using.

Any ideas? Jay

Yea. Outlook 2000 doesn't support that switch. Switches are handled by the
application. If no one programmed the switch into the application, it
doesn't work..

Thanks Brian,

I'm surprised that this MS application (OL 2000) doesn't support the switch,
since MS designed the OS and the MS software divisions should be talking to
each other. I guess the clich that truth is stranger than fiction applies
here.

I wonder if OL2002 or OL2003 support the prefetch switch? I wouldn't
upgrade to OL2003 just for that reason alone but if OL2003 did, it might
push me to upgrade, given other advantages of OL2003. Jay

The KB articles and Help in Outlook that describe the switches don't mention
it.

Hello! I have never really used Excel much but I have had an idea which could make some of the work I do a lot easier. I know Excel is powerful but I don't know the best way to approach it so can anyone out there help me? How can I formt a date in Excel in the form mm/dd that switches t.
I have an application that uses the mm/dd format. However, some of our users are in the UK and I want to display the date as dd/mm, i.e. it switches automatically depending on the region. Excel does have a format that switches depending on the region (it's prefixed with a *) but it's in a form mm/dd/yyyy and I only want mm/dd. Anyone know if this can be done? I think you need VBA for that. Corrupt .mny file in Money 2000.

Programmatically finding and deleting registry entries. 2000 and XP
Hi. I need to write a deinstaller program that goes through the registry reads a few entries then deletes them on 2000 and XP. The reason I have to do this is because the Remove feature of the Modems control panel doesnt clean everything up properly and things lie around that interfere with subsequent installations of the driver. Specifically: 1. Running CHKDSK at start up
Is there a way to run chkdsk f/r on all five drives on one PC at start up? PC runs Windows XP Pro SP3. This way all drives would be checked and errors fixed, if necessary, in one go, at start up on this machine. We intend to do this on this heavily used PC from time to time - we do not need the desired chkdsk functionality to kick in at every boot! Regards and TIA. Multiple Attachments using command line swtches
