Hosted exchange opinions

Can anyone comment on hosted exchange services as compared to
stand-alone Outlook (not in a server) and Outlook on an in-house
server?

Would a hosted exchange service make sense for just 2-3 PCs who want
to share a calendar and some contact folders?

Any major drawbacks?

Any feedbakc oni specific hosts? What about SherWeb?

http://www.sherweb.com/)

Thanks a bunch

If you need to share outlook content, including calendars and email, or need
to access calendar, contacts, and email from anywhere, hosted exchange
makes a lot of sense - even for a single user.

IMHO, cost is the only drawback.

The only hosts I am familiar with is intermedia.net and 1and1. Avoid 1and1
like the plague. (Intermedia is fine though.) Sherweb prices are average -
no red flags in looking over their website. (You want avoid really low cost
hosts. )

Best way to persist alter table changes in my local DB to web host
Hello. Using SQL Server 2008. I'm developing on my local PC with a copy of the DB that is contained on a web host. Exchange 5.5
Hiya, I have a distribution list set up on my Exchange Server (5.5 with SP4, running on NT 4 SP6a) which only has 6 members. Over time though, as staff come and go, members have been added to this DL and then been removed at a later stage. I have a client who is reporting that when they try to email to the distribution list, they get two bounces. The first one is: "Unable to deliver message to the following address(es) /O=COMPANY/OU=EXCHANGE/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=ADDRESS 1. Remote host said: 554 delivery error: This user doesn't have an account" Where ADDRESS 1 is a user that, ...

Detach AD account from Exchange 2003 mail account
Hi How does one detach a 2003/AD user account from a 2003 exchange mail account with out deleting either? Cheers In AD Users and Computers, Right click the account. Select Exchange Tasks. In the list of tasks to perform, select "Remove Exchange Attributes". Then in Exchange System Manager run the cleanup agent on the mailbox store (right click Mailboxes under the Mailbox Store). The mailbox should then show a red x next to it. The two are now detached. (You'll need to create a new user account for the mailbox if you still want mail to go to it or if you want it ...

Exchange 2000 Retention Policy
Hi all, My retention policy is not functioning 100%. It will delete most messages, but not all. Some users report many messages retained older than 180 days old. My recipient policy is set on high priotiy and always running. I can't for the life of my figure out what is causing this. Just looking for ideas here. Note - all of these users accept default retention policy as well, already check that. This is Ex2000 Enterprise, running the latest and greatest. Thanks, Joshua MCSE:Messaging/Security ...

Hosting Secure Site
Our business is in need of setting up a dealer portal website which needs to interact with our internal SQL/App server. I know SBS is not the place to host the site so setting up a virtual web server and putting it in some sort of DMZ is the plan thus far. I'm planning on running the site securely (https://) which will conflict with the SBS OWA and RWW. I'd perfer to use the same static IP address so how would I go about setting up and accessing the dealer site given that both will be on port 443? Could I just change the port of the dealer portal? (eg. https://mysite...

Rebuild OAB in Exchange 2003
Hi. When I create a new user and mailbox the account does not show up in the OAB. I understand the reason is because we are using Outlook 2003 in cached mode. Is there a way to immediately update the OAB and push the change out. Do I need to rebuild the OAB in Exchange 2003 to make the changes immediate and have the user click Send/Receive to get the changes? What are the exact steps to rebuilding the OAB in Exchange 2003? Will it affect anything else? Thanks. Start Exchange System Manager and go to Recipients > Offline Address Lists. R-click on the Offline Address book on right a...

Exchange Stores
Hi We are running Exchange 2000 + sp3. (Build 6249.4) We have 4 mail stores + public folder store. The stores vary in size up to about 96gb, and are located on their own san drive. The transaction log files are also on their own san drive (65.9Gb drive with currently 62.9Gb free) . We have a problem here that happens infrequently, once every 2 months. The stores dismount (IS still running) and nobody can access email. When attempting to remount the stores they fail, suggeting restart of ESM and IS services. We then restarted the IS service which causes an error to appear on the screen ...

New Exchange Server
We are trying to get a new Exchange Server up and running in our company. Everything is working fine, EXCEPT CRM. When we unplug the old Exchange box, CRM email (at least outgoing, probably incoming too) stops working. We have installed the CRM Email Router on the new Exchange box. However, when we installed it, the old box was still up and running. We are receiving SOAP error messages on the new box, even when the old one is turned on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Did you uninstall the router from the old Exchange server? The router config adds an entry in the registry on the CRM ser...

Exchange Connectors #2
Hello, Our company has been using internet email for years. Now, we would like to use Exchange with the POP3 connector to download email into an Exchange database for many reasons. However, we use our ISP for POP3 inbound mail, but SBC Yahoo's SMTP server for outbound. Is there a way to configure exchange so it uses the POP3 connector for inbound, but still uses a different SMTP server for outbound? Any help is appreciated. Regards, Matthew White Is there a reason you wouldn't just eliminate the external server entirely and have mail delivered directly to your server an...

DPM 2010 Beta Exchange Cluster Recovery

From the recovery tab I expand the Exchange cluster, and then expand the “All Protected Exchange Data”. I have 5 databases that are being backed up, when I click on any one of them DPM collapses all of the folders to only show the “Recoverable Data” folder with a plus next to it. Making it seem as though there is no data available to recover. Thanks, Bret Hi Bret, Yes, DPM collapses all the folders if there are no recovery points for that ...

Exchange Upgrade #3
I hope that this is the right place to post this if not sorry! I upgraded our E2K server to Exchange 2003 at teh weekend and all seems to have gone very well. There is one slight problem though. Some, not all, of our Group boxes are not allowing users to send e-mails out from them. This all worked perfectly well in E2K but now there is a message displayed that states the user does not have permissions to send on behalf off the box. I have not yet upgraded the server to Win 2003 but the Domain structure is mastered by a Windows 2003 Server so I would have thought the domain is prep...
