Ghost folders

I had two problems while importing my Outlook Express data to Outlook
2003...

The first import failed and killed Outlook when the pst file size got
to more than 2gb... so I created a new Personal Folders file of the new
2003 Unicode type, pointed my Outlook accounts to use it, then redid
the import.

1) During the import, in a number of my imported folders, I got
hundreds of "undeliverable in the subject line" messages that never
existed in my old Express folders. ANy idea why this would happen?

2) I not have everything working fine with my main Unicode Personal
Folders file... but after all the fiddling I did at teh .pst file
llevel and within Outlook, I have 2 additional "Personal Folders"
entries in the folder tree in Outlook. The .pst files they used to
point to are long gone... and if I try to Close these entried from
within Outlook I get an error saying "Object not found"... which I am
guessing is attributed to the .pst file they used to point to not being
there any more. Question is, how can I get these ghost folders
removed? Where are these entries stored?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff

From what I've read, the process of copying Outlook Express data to Outlook
seems to work better if you export from the OE side rather than importing
from the Outlook side. I haven't heard of that particular issue with
"undeliverable", though.

For your second question, see if the information on the following page
helps:

2003: Folder Vanished from PST
The victim is a home (POP) installation of Outlook 2003 managing five separate email addresses. I upgraded from Outlook 2000 a couple weeks ago without incident. Last night I tried to drag a message from the inbox to my main folder, as the existing rules didn't route this particular message. The message wouldn't move over. I clicked on the folder in question, and nothing happened. I took down Outlook and restarted it. The folder in question was gone. I ran ScanPST, which found a few minor errors. This didn't help the situation. I found that various rules, and SpamBayes...

Personal Folder Backup #2
We now have the new Office 2003 running on a Windows 2000 Professional machine and I am trying to backup Personal Folders (.pst) files. I have done this before with the previous version of this tool but this time it is only working under the Administrator sign-on. I have downloaded and installed the pfbackup.exe file as per the instructions. When I open Outlook while signed on as the Administrator everything is peachy. Sent mail saves in inbox folders
This is very strange and just started today. I have several folders set up for various email accounts. I have rules set up to filter the mail to right folder. All of a sudden today, Outlook, instead of saving sent items from one of the mailboxes is saving them in the folder for that account. I can't figure out what I did to change anything but this is a bit annoying. Not just the behavior, but not being able to figure out what I did. Any advice? TIA, Bob ...

Outlook 2003 Folder & Favorite-folder synch/update problems
I've been using Outlook since 1998 and I make my living at software support, so I'm usually hard to stump, but I'm sucking wind on this one. The problems below all started on the remote Outlook copy, so I have to imagine they're connected to the remote setup and OST files. But I've been through the settings and tried to re-synch, cleared the folder store and recreated it, etc., and nothing seems to correct the problems. Can anyone suggest a systematic way to diagnose and fix what's happening? Here's the story: I'm running Outlook 2003 (all current patches: ...

Folder ordering in Outlook
I have a number of mailboxes displayed in my folder list. Before upgrading to Exchange 2003 from Exchange 5.5 they were all diaplayed as mailbox - mailbox name. Now if I add any new ones or remove and re-add any the display is just mailbox name. I cannot rename them because the option is greyed out. "Ghost" folders that aren't really ghosts
Upgraded my laptop from Win2K to XP, Office 2K to 2003 - all at once. Previous Outlook install included two profiles - one for online, one for remote. Both profiles use the same 3 PST files. Problem is - in one profile I have three "ghost" folders that aren't normal ghosts. They show up between my primary storage file and my other .PSTs - with no names and no properties that I can see.
