Spending Tracker

i have a sub category that always displays in the spending tracker. even if
i remove all categories from the list, this one category still shows up.
it's not even on the list which is another question - what makes a category

Upgraded to Money Plus Deluxe couple months back. The Spending Tracker is not registering certain categories so it doesn't keep up to date with my budgeted amounts. spending thermometers
Help! For some reason or another I can't figure it out, I lost my spending thermometer on a budget item. It shows up in the budget as having a budget amount but when I enter in a transaction it says I have a budget amount of zero and to enter a spending limit. When I go into thermometers its says budget amount is zero and I can't change it. Any ideas? ...

How to categorize non essential spending?
I'd like to set a budget on what I can spend for "want" vs. "need" items. For example, utilities, gasoline, phone are "need". A new camera, book, chair are "want". I currently categorize all of these but I cannot run a report such as "Wants" and see all non essential spending for that month and know where I stand against a budget. Should I just create two large categories called Needs and Wants then start adding existing categories to them? Both will be expenses. To take it a little further, I'd like to setup some type of bank accou...

Spending by category
I'm using Money 2004 Premium. I'm trying to accurately capture how much I'm spending in each category, but am running into problems in a few areas: Scenario 1: Say I borrow 100 dollars from my savings account, and put it in my checking. The following month, I repay the money back into my savings account. This will make it look like I'm contributing more money to my savings account than I really am. It will appear that I contributed an extra 100 dollars to savings that month, when in fact, I borrowed the money from savings and am mearly paying the money back. An...

Budget and Income/Spending
OK this may seem complicated or I might be seeing the forest and not the trees but this is the situation. Grandpa had land he put in my mother's name for me and my brother, it has been sold. Check was payable to my Mother, she paid the Capital gains out of the whole and gave the rest to my brother and I, I then used some of the money to pay off bills in full. How do I enter that in Money? I do not want to have it as income so when I do taxes it shows up, I tried to put it in an "dummy" account and transfer/pay the bills from there but it really whacks the budget out of...

Is it just me? It appears that no matter what options I check off or on, I cannot get the spending limit thermometer to appear in the account register. I've seen pictures of it. I have it in my Money 2001. But for some reason, it appears to have disappeared in 2003. Budget Lottery spending
How do I budget my lottery spending? Create a category for it. Assign an amount to this category in BP. Or, schedule a recurring transaction for this category. "Joseph A. Planned spending
I have a checking account with multiple savings accounts. One of my savings accounts is for putting away for those yearly bills or once a year expenses. I add up the yearly amounts for each of them and divide by the number of paychecks I get each year. That amount is automatically deposited in that savings account each pay. How can I track in that one savings account how much I have accumulated for each bill/expense? I have tried to set up a budget adding each as a savings goal, but that doesn't seem to work. I want to create a report that shows each one and how much is saved at tha...

Closed Account and Savings and spending budget
I have recently closed a couple of bank accounts that I no longer use. In Money 2007 I set both the accounts to closed. When I went to my budget the accounts no longer show up and none of the transactions show up. This screws up my monthly budgets prior to when I closed the accounts and it screws up the annual budget as well. How can I mark the accounts closed but still have them show up in budget. Also I would like to stop the online updates for these accounts. I read an earlier post that says to stop online updates for the bank in question and then set up online updates again and onl...

Spending Tracker Problem with converted file in 2007
Hello, I've converted my 2006 file to 2007 and now the Spending Tracker only tracks category spending from one account. More specifically my checking account adds to the category spending but none of my credit card spending is included in the Spending Tracker totals. I searched through the settings, tried new transactions in the existing accounts - no luck. What does work: - I created a new file, added two accounts, checking and credit card, added dummy transactions to both accounts and the Spending Tracker reflects transactions from both accounts. - I created a new account ...

Average income and spending
Is there a way to get a nice overlook on what the average expense and income is over a period of time? Short of using an Income and Expense report for some long period of time (a year?) and doing the math (/12 for monthly average), no. You can export the report to .CSV, read it into Excel, and do the math there, though. Net Spending!!
OK, hopefully an easy one here! So I spent 40 quid on shoes, then I took them back and got refunded. So in my clothing category this month I have a postivie transaction of 40 followed a few days later by a negative transaction (in the same category). When however I look at my spending report, it says I have spent 40 on clothing - when I have in fact spent nothing . How do I get it to recognise the negative transaction? This would also apply to my housemate borrowing 20 quid off me, in category 'Tom'. I lent him 20, he paid it back, so I haven't 'spent' 20quid on Tom, it...

Reimbursement Not Appearing in Spending Analysis
This question is in reference to the Money 2004 Spending Analysis view - Spending by Category. I ordered and paid for something for our company bike club. Since I was going to be repaid by the club, I entered the transaction in my credit card account and assigned it to the category - Office Expenses; Reimbursed. The bike club made out a check payable to the credit card bank and I mailed it in. I entered this transaction as a credit in the credit card account and assigned it to the same category as the above transaction. Money asked me to confirm that I wanted to use an expense category fo...

Spending Catagory
I have trying to make this featue work for me so I can see where my money goes. (I previously was convinced that money disappeared over time in the same way water does) My situation is that I use my credit card for fuel, groceries, clothes, company reembursable expenses, some houshold bills; basically for everything besides rent and a few other bills. Money uses my checking account to catagorize my spending and lumps the credit card payment into a single catagory so it does not show how my credit card speding is catagorized. I have each credit card payment in its account assigned a catago...

Spending Tracker mismatch
Dear all, I'm gotting a fail in my spending tracker using the advanced budget where the balance of some categories used in spending tracker differ from real spending and from "spending by category" report. Spending Tracker (MD07)
I have a checking and a credit card account that I include in my advanced budget. The credit card is one I pay off each month, so I have it in my debt reduction planner. It shows up in my bills list and the payment is updated with each new charge thruout the month (good!) What is bad though is the Spending Tracker bargraphs. I have one for groceries and gas, but what I've noticed is that the charges I enter in the credit card account are not counted when computing the bargraph... only those debits from my checking account. If I move the credit card account out of the debt planner, ...

Average Customer Spending
I have a column which contains dollar values from say $1.00 to $30.00. I need a chart to plot in one dollar increments the percentage for each dollar. For example, if I have 20 values, and there are 5 values which are between $1.00 and $1.99 then the chart would show 25% for this range. the column would look like: $1.20 $5.33 $2.30 $1.90 $2.30 etc regards, Paul On the worksheet, e.g. in cells E2:E31, list the numbers 1-30 In cell F1, enter a heading, e.g. Freq Select the cells to the right of this list, e.g. cell F2:F31 Enter an array formula to calculate the frequency of each nu...

Monthly spending analysis
Hi I'm a UK user, using Money version 14, but I don't think this question is particularly country-specific. In order to help me analyse my *monthly* expenditure I want to see spending by category averaged out on a monthly basis over the last twelve months. This is really helpful in smoothing out peaks and troughs and setting a monthly budget. I've done this so far by exporting data from an annual-expenditure-by-category report into Excel. I set up Money to produce a report for, say, the year ending 30th June. Then I paste these figures into Excel as a column against the list of ca...

Spending Tracker in 2007
- I downloaded the deluxe trial - converted my 2006 file - I used the advanced budget - and now the spending tracker only tracks spending one account - I've check the "accounts used in this budget" and they're all still there am I missing something or is this a bug I upgraded to 2007 from 2006 and it seems that the budget tracker also doesn't track credit card accounts anymore. Tech support confirmed this and suggested that I create a new cash account and duplicate each credit card transaction there if I want it tracked in my budget. This is pretty insane becau...

Spending Tracker Feature
I'm compairing my current version of Money 2003 to the new trial version (Money 2006). The one thing I noticed is that is that I can't find the place that allows me to track "All Expenses" and show the thermometer on the home page. Seems I can only pick one expense category (i.e., Clothes, Bills, Food, etc.). My old version allows me to pick "All Expenses" (which includes all budget categories) as a category and show it as a thermometer on the home page under the "Monthly Spending Progress." Am I missing something here? Do I have to create a new c...
