Creating Boxes Within A Document
I need to provide check boxes for questions in a document I'm creating.
There will be two columns of questions each requiring boxes to check for yes
or no. I've researched through the Help within Word but to no avail. Any
help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using Word 2000. Thank you in

Spell checking question
I am using a recently acquired Word 2007 in Windows 7. I am not sure if
this is a bug or if I am doing something wrong.
The document I am writing includes numerous phrases in French which the
spell checker obviously flags as misspelled. If I right click to correct
the spelling, one of the options is "language" and if I select that and
click on French, word still finds it misspelled, even though on
re-checking French remains selected. If on the other hand I instead
select the phrase and then "Set language" - this time from the ribbon -
then Spell checking works correctly for th

Custom Dictionary
I want to add Hi-Build (with a non-breaking hyphen) to a custom dictionary
in Word 2007 (UK spelling). The spell checker will neither add it to my
dictionary nor ignore it.
I have tried editing the dictionary directly and I can get as far as
Hi-Buil but then the Add button is greyed out.
Can anyone help please?

Word count issue
Word 7 has a handy word count function, but it counts as "words" things like
Roman numerals, + signs (like this: + + + + + + + = 7 words), and so on. Is
there any way to change this? Thanks!

Find and Replace: Flashing Rectangles-- Word 2003
When I bring up the search and replace dialog box, I get quick flashing
rectangular lines that flash only briefly. The same happens when I cancel the
box. They come up and down from the bottom of the screen with the dialog box.
Any idea on how to stop them??

remove hyperlinks
I want to remove all the hyperlinks from some copied text. I have seen all
the answers which say to -
Ctrl-A
Ctrl-shift-F9
I tried it but can't get it to work. Ctrl-A selects all the text, but the
Ctrl-shift-F9 does nothing. I've checked and my keyboard has the function
keys switched on as function keys! It just leaves the text highlighted, then
when unhighlighted, hovering over the hyperlinks still produces a link.

Small picture then text
Hi all
I want to write some stories in Word 2003 but instead of all text I want to
start each line of text with a picture of the person whose text will then
follow. How do I do this easily? I know I will have to scan the persons
picture then crop it to just a head and then resize the head to the same
same as the font?

Hi all
I want to put a small picture before text in word 2003.
I want to put a picture of somebodys head on the line of text then text
after it, then on the enxt line change the picture to someone elses head
then add text and so on.

outline numbered list not auto-numbering
I have 2003 version of Word at work. I am trying to create an outline
numbered list with 3 levels. When I hit the enter button after typing the
text for an item, word does not seem to recognize that it should continue the
list. The next line just has normal formatting, and I'm forced to use the
format painter brush to copy a previous item from the list, and then Word
seems to recognize it as part of the list. I have verified the "Apply
Automatic Numbered Lists" is checked in the Tools/Autocorrect
Options/Autoformat as you type menu.

Search & Replace Font Color
When using Search & Replace (in Word 2000), the only search
option offered for font color is from a drop-down "palette".
The text that I'm wanting to change the color on is some
sort of yellow, but the two choices in the palette found
nothing.
How can I determine the precise color of this text, and then
search for it?

word 2007 - how to keep menus viewable?
Hello,
I am new to Word 2007 - so I am not sure if I am using the correct
terminology.
My problem is in the view of the document menus:
I have to keep pressing "home", "insert", "page layout", etc... to see the
menus below them. Currently when I press, say, "home", it appears, I can
make a change, but then when I begin typing again, the "home" menu disappears.
How do I keep the menus viewable without having to re-click on them?

Is there a way to change the default Zoom for NEW documents? I set it the
way I wanted and then went into Page Setup and clicked Default, but that did

Msg title is self explanatory (I think). I am running Win7 Ultimate OS and MS
Office Word 2000 is unstable ("Word has stopped responding and must close").

Lost document!
I received a word doc by email, opened and id quite a lot of reviewing work
on it, saving it several times. I restarted the computer and the file which
is still as an attachment in Outlook Express is exactly as I received it and
all the editing and marking has gone!

Question about styles and defaults
I am very new to Word 2007 but very familiar with W 2002.
I have a Word 2002 document that I opened in Word 2007.
I also started a new document in Word 2007 and would like to use the
same fonts, heading styles, etc. How do I transfer these settings to
the new document in Word 2007 (which presently has weird default fonts
like "Calibri" and no default Heading 3, etc.).
I prefer the settings I am used to in Word 2002 and would like to
transfer them to Word 2007.

Hello, does anyone out there have a templete or sample letter of concern
addressed to a mortgage lender? I know my request for this type of temple is

odd. Long story short, after several years trying to get my loan modified to
lower my monthly payments, I received documents with my new mortgage loan
agreement, requesting signatures and the quick return of my acceptance. The
new loan lowered my payment $100.

Deleting in Word 07
I am using Word07 and saving new documents as .docx. When I delete
something it remains on the screen but if I then select it says "marked
as deleted". I just want to get rid of it from screen and document but
it doesn't seem to want to do this. It must be possible but this version
of Word is the most non-intuitive I have ever come across.
Help appreciated.

Section Break issue
I am working in a Word 2003 master document that contains seven
subdocuments. I have a footer that consists of a centered page number.
All my footers are set to "same as previous." Several of the pages at
the end of the master document have sections that are formatted as
landscape so they can hold wider type graphics. The trouble is that my
page numbers are not centered properly on the landscape sections. If I
turn off "same as previous" then I do not get any page numbers at
all. How do I get centered page numbers on the landscape sections
just as I get them in other places in the doc

I use Word 2007.
I received a document in different, separated files.
The document has a page numbering, 0:1, 1:1 1:2 1.3, 2:1, 3:1, 3:2, etc,
some chapters have only one page, others have up to 60 pages.
The first number is chapter, the second number the page in the chapter.
As I received the document in different files, I want to put it together in
a single document. When I do so, by copy and paste, the numbering is not the
same as it should be.
To fix this I have spent hours, but the numbering is still not automatic.

Customizing Word97 - Get rid of "Microsoft Word - " on the Taskabar
I'm going to night school to get a better degree and working on a
paper. I've decided to aid my work by using my old computer to
simulate having dual monitors. This leaves me with using good old
Word97 to write the paper.
Is there any way that I can shorten what is written on the taskbar so
I can easily identify which document I have open is which segment and
which is the Works Cited page via filenames? They all show up as
"Microsoft ..." at the moment. I'd like to either change it so the
filename is first, or eliminate the string that says "Microsoft Word"

Where can Autotext be copied?
In Word 2003, I could get Tools | Templates and Addins | Organizer, and see
the Autotext entries as well as the Styles and Macros, which could then be
copied to another template.
In Word 2007, only Macro Project Items and Styles are visible and available
to copy. Where is the equivalent for Autotext?
I want to create a template based on an earlier one but copy over all the
Autotext entries for the earlier one.

Automatic date removal
Hi,
We have a large number of old document files with a date field that
updates automatically on opening and saves on exit. This system might
have been useful at one time but now we need to view the actual date for
reference purposes. Is there any way to disable this momentarily.
Making the file read-only does not stop this.

numerals in a mail merge
Word 2003 on Windows XP
I have some numbers with varying numbers of decimals. I have them in Excel.
I formated them with two decimal places. When I bring them in to Word as a
data source, they are showing a larger number of decimal places in some
cases. 0.2 in Excel may come out as .200000000001, for example. ( I am
guessing at the number of zeroes)
Next, I copied the numbers and pasted them in NotePad to lose any formating
and then pasted them into a new spreadsheet. But when I bring these into a
mail merge, I am getting the same results.

Why does header/footer (2007) fade when in the document?
In Word 2007, why does the information in the header and footer fades out? I
put a legend, with different colors, in the footers but when I am in the
document the header and footer fade out instead of being full color like in
Word 2003. The same for the header where I have a logo.

Word 2007 Online Forms
I am creating a collection of forms to be filled in by technicians in a small
call center. The forms will be stored in a SharePoint 2007 library.
I need a means to be able to have the techs clear the form after using it,
without unprotecting and using the Reset Fields commands in the Legacy Forms
group of commands.
A macro possibly saved in Normal.dotm, and a button on the QAT seems a
possible solution, but I do not know how to do a macro to perform this task
for several differently named forms.
Any help will be appreciated.

Unwanted horizontal line
I am using Word 2000. All of a sudden a horizontal line has appeared in
some of my pages which I cannot get rid of. I don't know how I put it
there. I didn't meant to.
It stretches from margin to margin and can be dragged and dropped up and
down the page. When directly over it, the pointer changes to two
vertical lines with arrows either side pointing left and written (I
don't know what the term is for this symbol) so it behaves rather like a
row divider in a table.
If I drag and drop it and then click the menu attached to the undo

Viewing imported information
I cannot view information imported into Word (2003).
I am pressing <Prt Scr> to capture a screen image and then <Paste>. I can
view only the outline of the captured information - but it does print out
OK. I've tried all the ,Paste Special> options. What do I have to do to be

Appending Word Docs
I have created a number of how-to docs in Word (Word 8 for Mac) on how
to use the database that we use (for distribution to the database
users). Each doc has a header with the company logo on the left of the
header and the title of the doc to the right of the logo. All docs are
the same size in terms of margins.
I would like to create one doc containing all the individuals docs that
I have created - but with one catch. I want the header of the
individual docs to remain when they become appended to the master
document. Is this possible?
Or are there alternative solutions?

No leading for list inside table (Word 2007)
I have a simple 2-column table containing agenda items for a meeting.
The left column contains the topics. They are formatted as a numbered
list. The right column contains the subtopics. They are formatted as a
bulleted list. It looks like this:
1. Topic 1 * Subtopic

winword.exe will not default to open .doc files
So i've reaad other threads regarding this but none of the troubleshooting methods work...so microsoft office word 2007 (winword.exe) will not get set to the default to open .doc files...it is set to open all other types (.docx, .dochtml, etc.) but just wont for .doc files...ive done the 'winword /r' trick to no avail...setting protocol defaults, doing 'open with...', but whenever i do these two winword.exe doesnt show up and when i browse for it it still will not default to it when selected...not sure why but its only with .doc files...any help? It is currently defaulting to microsoft works w

Different Page Numbering Styles in same document
I am using Word 2007 for Vista, writing a formal technical report with strict
guidelines for formatting. The only thing left now is the number formatting.
It is generally in APA, so the running head is incorporated into all headers
here is the set up...
title page, no number (I know that one)
table of contents, abstract, etc... need to be i, ii, iii, etc...
then the body needs to be arabic numerals 1, 2, 3, etc...
Appendeces to have separate title pages with alphanumeric numbering as
follows...A-1, A-2...B-1, B-2, etc...
How can I do this all in one document. And the table

Command To Not Hyphenate Certain Words
I'm afraid I'm looking for help again - using MS Word 2003.
Is there a way to permanently (default) stop hyphenation of certain
words without having to just give the "don't hyphenate" instruction
every time it comes up. For instance, we don't want ever to hyphenate
any months, peoples' names that come up all the time, company names,
etc. Can we, for instance, somehow input the names of all the months
somewhere so that it will never hyphenate, etc.?

Default view?
Every Word file is opening up in Print layout. Is there any way of having
the default opening layout to be Web layout? Who prints these days
anyway? Maybe 1 in 100 documents on a typical computer ever gets printed!
It seems ridiculous to have Print as the default layout.
Using XP Pro SP3 with Office 2007 but have chosen to save documents in the
Word 2003 file type so Wordpad can access them in case I need to work with
them on a public computer that may not have Word 2007 installed.
Surely it must be possible to have Web Layout as the default View
setting. I have hundre

font consistency
I am trying to make all characters new times roman size 12; however, there
are sections where the characters are closer together.
Also, the space between paragraphs is inconsistent. Some are 2 line spaces
apart, while others seems to be 1.5 line spaces apart in spite of my trying
to make them all 2 line spaces apart.
Please help!

How to get watermark on all pages in Word 2007?
I have a simple 3-page document. I would like to put a watermark on
all pages. To insert a watermark, I click on Page Layout | Watermark |
Draft 1. If I do this from page 1, I get it on page 1 only. If I then
do it from page 2, I get it on pages 2-3, but it disappears from page
1. If I redo it from page 1, it reappears on page 1, but disappears
from pages 2-3.
What is going on?

Document hyperlink doesn't work when offline
On a laptop, I have a template with a hyperlink to a jpg that is an
offline file. The hyperlink contains the path
\\Servername\PRACTICE DOCUMENTS\Reference\UE dermatomes.jpg
The hyperlink only works if the laptop is logged onto the server
containing the original file. I can also access the jpg file directly
on the laptop via:
PRACTICE DOCUMENTS\Reference\UE dermatomes.jpg since this is also a
mapped drive. Z:\PRACTICE DOCUMENTS
I tried to change the hyperlink to Z:\PRACTICE DOCUMENTS\Reference\UE
dermatomes.jpg, but this change does not save. It reverts back to \
\Servern

DOCX files
I have received an attachment which the sender says is a word 2007 document.
It has a ".docx" extension. My word 2003 starts a File Conversion app but I
can't find a setting that makes the document readable.
What should the sender do to give me a document that is readable by Word
2003 without file conversion issues?

Word 2000 and 2007
Hi, I usually use Word 2007, but from time to time I use the 2000 version.
After I've used the one it takes ages to configure for the other and vic
versa...what's the best way so that I can just click the Word2007 icon and
have word open quickly and ditto Word2000. Thanks.

Word to HTML for Craigslist ad
I need to write a few ads for Craigslist. If I write them in Word and
paste them into the ad, much of the formatting is lost. If I use Word
just for the text and manually code the html tags, the document is
pretty much unreadable.
I see that there are a number of tools that will convert a Word
document to html. Can anyone recommend one over the others?
All I need is simple tags for an ad: bold, italics, underline, head1
and head2, and lists (mostly unordered).
It doesn't need to be free.

mail merge label question
Hello,
I created a page by going into Mailing / Labels / Options and creating a
new label for landscape letter size paper and having 4 equally divided
regions for making postcards. I then clicked on the new document button
and formatted each postcard the way I wanted it, starting off with the
word "Dear" and followed by the rest of what I wanted to appear.
How can I add a mail merge field after the word "Dear" so that I get a
different name filled in for each of the 4 postcards on the page (each
of the 4 have different clip arts inserted. I would actually have a list
of about 20 n

selecting picture behind text
If you right click a picture and select the text wrapping to be "behind
text", how do you later select the picture if you need to change
something. I tried right clicking to change the text wrapping again and
I kept selecting the text in front of it instead of the image. I got
around it by doing and undo, but that is not a practical approach for
future modifications etc.

Hi All,
I am wondering if anyone has a solution on this.
There is a Word 2007 file (docx) that has links to an Excel file.
They are both resided in the same folder. When the files are moved to
another folder, the link path does not get updated =96 which I
understand. But when the Word file is first opened, the following
message came up:
A document with the name "xxx.xlsm" is already open. You cannot open
two documents with the same name, even if the documents are in
different folders. To open the second documents, either close the
document that's currently open, or rename on

i had edited it, saved it and opened it again without any problems for few
days.
however the last time i tried to open it, it seems to be locked.
i cannot click on any options apart from 'view'
and when i try to edit my essay, 'This modification is not allowed because
the section is locked' appears in the bottom left corner.
how can i change my essay back to normal so i can edit it?

Trouble with the template.
I want to reset the 'normal' template to default to "Times
New Roman" 10point font, and the pages numbered centre top.
This seems to work when I set and reopen Word2003 from the
Administrator Template vis:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates.
But it will not work when I open Word2003 normally from the
desktop.
I have deleted the "Normal.dot" from the following and
copied in the "Normal.dot" from the Administrator above:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates.
C:\Documents and Settings\Default U

Virtual Printer that Works Well With Word
I am looking for software that will print a word document to a TIF
file--allow you to specify the resolution of the output?
