where is "file search" in word 2007?

  • Follow

I have Windows 7 and Word 2007 - is there any way to do a "file search" (that
is what is was called in Word 2003)? ie - i could type in a key word and it
would find the file for me. For the work I do, I think i'd go back to 2003
if I can't access this kind of function/command in word 2007. Any help is
GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Microsoft made a decision some time ago to take search out of Office
and make the operating system's search do the work instead.

In Windows 7 when you use the Open or Save As dialogs, or any of the
other dialogs that deal with files, you'll find the same Search box in
the upper right corner of the dialog that you find in the Computer
file manager. That Search box will find the words inside files,
including keywords in the file properties, as well as in file names.
