Word hangs when I view drawing objects in a portrait model

I am using MS Word 2002 (sp3).   When I view the page with graphs by using 
drawing tool, in a portrait mode, the Word hangs.   It works OK for the 
landscape mode, it also works OK for regular text pages in a portraint mode.  
 I reinstalled Word, or rebot computers and tried a lot of other methods, the 
problem remains.  Any one can let me know how to reolve the issue?
