"Microsoft Word has stopped working" error message
I am currently running Windows 7 and Office Professional 2007. I tried to
open a word document and recieved the "Microsoft Word has stopped working"
window. It prompted for a couple of options, so I chose "Check online for
solution". It sent the message and then gave me "There was a problem sending
the command to the program" popup.
I clicked on the problem details and this is what it provided me:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: WINWORD.EXE
Application Version: 12.0.6514.5000
Application Timestamp: 4a89d533
Fault Module Name: StackHash_8905

Fault Module Timestamp: 4a5bdadb
Exception Code: c0000374
Exception Offset: 000c283b

Additional Information 3: 61fa
Additional Information 4: 61fa5ed422fb7982c4ee489ea7403eac
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem?
Thanks,
Brett

Hey. I've had the exact same problem after i installed a printer on the local
network and changed it to default printer. Try setting the XPS integrated
printer (in win 7) to default printer.
Check this site for more info:

O.K. I am having the same problem. I recently began working on a new
computer with Windows 7 and Small Business Office 2007. When I open
Microsoft Word, it says "Microsoft Word has stopped working." It then gives
me a message saying it is trying to solve the problem. Of course, it never
does.
What does resetting the printer mean?

Word MUST see a locally connected, compatible printer driver set as the
Windows default printer. This is one of the most common problems causing
your symptoms. Make sure you have the latest printer driver available for
your printer and then delete and reinstall the printer.
If that's not the problem, see

I get this error message frequently and have found a work-around. This may
seem crazy but I go to Excel 2007 and clear the clipboard. Word 2007 then
works fine. If I clear the clipboard before starting Word 2007 the program
always starts and runs without problem.
