taskbar icons malfunctioning
XP on a laptop.
I like the battery icon to always appear in the taskbar so I know when the
battery is fully charged and I can discontinue the power cable. But, even
though I have that icon to "always show" in the taskbar properties
(customize Notifications), it disappears as soon as I attach the power line.
Is there a way to change this behavior?
Related issue: When I attach the power cable a icon used to appear to show
that. Now this no longer happens and I cannot find its icon in the taskbar
properties to tell it to appear when active.

Have you looked in the Task Bar and Start Menu properties? Right click
on the taskbar and select properties. In the Notification area at the
bottom of the window, is the Hide inactive icons checked? If so, click
on configure then scroll through the list until you find the "On AC
Power" icon and change it to always show.

That is precisely my problem.
1. The battery icon is marked as "always show", but does not obey that
command. It dissappears as soon as I attach the power cable.
2. The "On AC Power" icon does not exist in the list so I cannot change it
to always on. So, when AC is connected, the battery icon simply dissappears
and is not replaced by the AC icon.
